<HOME ROOM LINK>

Welcome to <BATH LINK> a newsletter for and about Bath alumni --

anyone who graduated or attended Bath High School. It features

information about classmates, reunions, school events, teachers, plus web

site links, a pop quiz, some humor and other items of alumni interest. The

newsletter, due to having 45 graduating classes (and all are important), is

somewhat long. It is suggested that if you don't have time to read it all

right now, save it in a special folder named, "BATH LINK," and then read it

when you do have the time.

<BOARD NAMES NEW SUPERINTENDENT>

   The seventh superintendent of Bath Township Schools is Bill Lodermeier,

a 14-year Shawnee schools administrator. A 32-year veteran in education,

he served 10 years as a superintendent and another 10 as principal after

teaching in the classroom for 12 years.

   This afternoon the Board of Education approved his two-year contract at

an annual salary of $80,000.

   Selected from 17 candidates, Lodermeier, 53, succeeds Supt. Paul W.

Assenheimer, who retires after serving the district for the past six years.

   Supt. Lodermeier resigned from Shawnee and served as superintendent

at Pike-Delt-York Schools in Fulton County for the past two years. Prior to

becoming superintendent for eight years at Shawnee, Lodermeier was

assistant principal and then principal at the high school, coming to the local

district in 1986 from Bluffton schools.

   Preceding Lodermeier as Bath's superintendent were Robert J.

Thompson (1956-74), Duane Bachman (1975), William Brownson (1976-

77), Phillip Gordon (1978-85), Charles Montgomery (1986-95) and Paul W.

Assenheimer (1996-02).

Coach Paul W. Krotzer dies at 81

Larry L. Oatman, Lima

   With sadness I recently learned that a coach and teacher who influenced

a great number of students at Bath and Delphos Jefferson High schools

passed away earlier this year in Florida.

   Paul W. Krotzer of Ellenton, FL, died Feb. 19, 2002, just two weeks after

his 81st birthday.

   He began his coaching career at Delphos Jefferson in 1953 after serving

in the Navy during World War II and graduating of Bowling Green State

University.

   Formed in the fall of 1956, Bath High School named him its first head

football coach. In 1963, after seven years, he stopped coaching at Bath but

continued teaching social studies and history for another three years.

During this time, he and his wife, Connie, bought Driver's Market at Bluelick

and Slabtown roads, changing its name to the Bluelick Store.

   They sold the grocery store, and in 1966 he returned to teach at

Jefferson, where he could realize his dream of coaching his son, Hal, in

football. He coached for eight seasons until 1970 and continued to teach at

Jefferson, until he retired.

   In 1977, after teaching history for 24 years, during which he also coached

15 years, he retired and moved to Florida.

   Coach Krotzer had a tremendous love for the game of football, which he

passed on to his players. He also enjoyed history, which he taught in the

classroom for 24 years.

   Beyond being a memorable coach and teacher, students also remember

him for his warm humor and gracefully gliding around the dance floor with

Connie at prom time--a considerable feat, giving his large, football player

size body.

   Survivors include his wife of 57 years, Connie of Ellenton, FL; a daughter,

Paula Jenkins of New Jersey and two sons, Hal of West Unity, OH; and

Larry of Colville, WA.

   Due to the distance, my contact with Coach Krotzer had been limited to

Christmas cards, so I was late in learning of his passing. Speaking for all

the students and players whose lives he helped shape: "Thanks coach

Krotzer, for teaching us on and off the field beyond the content of

textbooks."

(Ed.Note: This letter to the editor was published in The Lima News, Apr. 27

and the Delphos Herald, Apr. 23. Cards may be sent to Mrs. Connie

Krotzer, 378 Teakwood Dr., Ellenton, FL 34222.)

<BATH SPORTS LINK>

What a basketball season for the Bath girls -- (23-3)! And then came the

most exciting series of tournament games in the schools 45-year history.

--In the game's final seven seconds, the Wildkittens rallied from a four-point

deficit to post a 59-58 victory over St. Marys in the Division II district

title game.

--Three days later, the girls came from behind to beat undefeated Eastwood

in overtime 67-62 in the Division II regional semifinals.

--And then for the third time in a week, the "Kardiac Kittens" did it again,

overcoming a 14-point deficit to win over previously unbeaten Willard 51-48

to earn Bath its first regional championship since 1999.

--In Columbus, the girls refused to give up, but in the end were beaten by

Cleveland East Tech 57-40.

What a season! What spirit! What a team!

<PRINCIPAL DOES CART WHEELS>

Last year the eighth graders had disappointing state proficiency test scores.

So this year as freshman, High School Principal Rick Gross (BHS'79) said if

they would improve their scores, he would do cart wheels. They did and at

half-time at a basketball game Principal Gross, dressed as a vintage

cheerleader, not only did cart wheels but back flips too. Wearing short

pleated-skirt, head band and all, made by Rick's wife, Kris, he was quite a

sight. Principal Gross was joined, also dressed as cheerleaders, by school

board member Rob McPheron (BHS'72) and Parent-Teacher Society

president Jeff Cary (BHS'74). Good sports for a good effort and it's sure to

be in the Recal.

<BAND AND CHOIR PLAY DISNEY WORLD>

The Bath choir sang at Epcot Center and the band marched in the Magic

Kingdom's Share a Dream Come True parade. Some 135 high school

musicians flew to Florida and spent five days at Walt Disney World in April.

The $900 it cost each student came from working concession stand during

sporting events and sales from fruit and gift certificates, according to band

director Erin Grimm.

<PASTA DINNER LINK>

For some great eating, mark your calendar for Saturday, May 11, as the

Bath Boosters Club Inc. sponsor a Pasta Dinner from noon to 6 p.m. in the

High School cafeteria. Pre-sale tickets are $6 for adults and $4 for children

under 12. Tickets at the door are $.50 more. The dinner includes: pasta and

meatballs, salad, bread and drink. Carryout orders are also available.

<STUDENT GETS FOUNDATION WISH>

Joshua Walters, a 13-year-old Bath Middle School student fighting

Leukemia, received a home computer from the Make-A-Wish Foundation.

He makes monthly visits to the hospital in Columbus for cancer treatment

but needs a bone marrow donor. Joshua wanted the computer to keep up

with the school work and email his two out of state step-brothers.
