Grades 9-12 This course is designed to teach the fundamentals of electricity, house wiring circuits, basic electronics, troubleshooting, repair procedures and proper use of instruments. Classroom exercises will be targeted as the textbook unfolds. Subject matter to be covered will include voltage, current, resistance, power, Ohm's Law formulas, electrical safety, magnetism, generators, motors, house circuits, components, devices, test equipment and electrical appliances. There will be an introduction to electronic components and symbols. Students will learn CAD in order to produce wiring symbols which can be saved in a library that will be applied to a floor plan. Wiring diagrams and schematics can be illustrated with PC Draft and other CAD applications. Multi sensory activities and problem solving tasks are featured in the laboratory. Students will illustrate house wiring circuits using switches, lights and receptacles. Small appliance repair, troubleshooting and learning how to use a multi tester will be required. Self instructional modules using the computer as a tool with virtual reality software (Crocodile Technology) will be applied as an alternative method of instruction for theory and principles of electricity. Internet in the classroom will be explored by navigating interactive sites that have related topics to the understanding and application of electricity. Videos will illustrate the latest technological trends. After a semester of hands-on experiences the students will be prepared for higher learning experiences in a variety of technical fields.
