Photography 2nd / 4th 9 wks. Project Requirements

Digital Project Assignments:

1*. Create a Digital Instructions folder and a 2nd/4th Digital Assignments folder located in the already created last name_Portfolio folder. (1/2 credit)

2*. Multimedia Critique Presentation [Mac or PC] (2 credits)

Navigate to the Web Quests link from the T.E. Home Page and then to the Photo Quests link. Assignment category options include:

Use PowerPoint or Appleworks for your digital slide presentation. Remember to acknowledge each photographer in the presentation. Critique each Photo and make sure you refer to the:

Use the above reference materials (links below the photo girl) for your critique analysis. Save the document in #2 folder- Multimedia Critique Presentation.

3*. Instructional Illustration [Mac] (1.5 credits) This assignment has to be done on the "iMacs" using the "Photo Library folder" as a resource for your photo illustrations. Required for B&W photographers [A-Contract Students].

Use PowerPoint or Appleworks to illustrate and describe the camera manipulation necessary to produce the following photos:

Stop Action - Blur Action - Panning - Great Depth of Field - Shallow Depth of Field - Silhouette - B setting (time exposure) - Use of Filters - Wildlife - Portrait - Landscape - Nature - Candle Light - Perspective - Special Effects - Framing - Fashion Statement - Sunset - Macro - Still Life - Lighting - Under Water - Architectural - Children - Pets

Remember to use the "photo folder" as a resource for your slides. Save the presentation in #3 folder.

4. Design a Letterhead and a Business Card [Mac] (1 credit)

Design a letterhead and a business card for a job, career, club, department or other activity. Scan (.tif) or use a digital camera (.jpg) to produce your graphics . Insert graphics (original or copied). Use text descriptions. Use a desktop publishing program called PageMaker to create your projects. Use the following dimensions for your business card [2" x 3 3/8"]. Save the document in #4 folder. Print a color hard copy of each activity on the Canon, HP or Epson printers for the instructor to grade.

5. Design a T-shirt and a Notebook Cover [Mac] (1/2 credit)

Design a T-shirt using PageMaker or a Draw program. Design a notebook cover for a subject area, a department, a hobby, a sport, an album, or a club. Use graphics that you produced from a "scan" or a "digital picture". If you have artistic ability, scan an original drawing, take a digital picture of your artwork or produce a graphic in a paint or draw program. You can be the creator / designer / illustrator of the "art work". These projects may require using multiple program applications. The T-shirt layout must be "flipped" horizontally in PageMaker in order to print properly on the T-shirt transfer paper. Yes, you can make a design that can be ironed on a T-shirt. Print a color hard copy of the Notebook Cover for the instructor to grade on photo quality paper. Save these documents in #5 folder: T-shirt Design and Notebook Cover.

6. Digital Imagery Activity [Mac] (1 credit)

If you are interested in creating a "digital imagery" project assignment, the basic application of Photoshop Elements, Appleworks, Corel Draw 8 and PageMaker programs may be necessary to learn. Navigate the Digital Imagery links by clicking Photo Links on the T.E. Home Page then surf the Digital Imagery link to get ideas for your digital project creation. Print out a hard copy for the instructor to grade. Save the document in a Digital Imagery folder #6. This design can also be prepared for T-shirt transfer paper.

7. Design two CD Disk covers (1/2 credit) / (1 credit) depending on degree of expertise.

Design 2 CD covers for printing. You can use "CD label paper" for your final project creations. You can also design CD labels using PageMaker, Appleworks or Corel Draw 8 on regular paper if you don't have a CD burned that needs a label. Create a template with 2 concentric circles, the larger circle 4 5/8" and the inner circle at 1 5/8". Use sites such as Amazon.com to find your favorite artist's list of songs. If you burn your favorite combination of songs on CD, you can create your own text (CD title and song titles) plus backgrounds and graphics. The graphics have to be illustrated by you, such as scans (tif) or digital photos (jpg). Save this assignment in folder #7

8. Digital Camera Presentation (1.5 credits)

Your Outdoor/Studio Digital Camera Project includes:

9. Photo Quality Prints from the Digital Camera - 2 Photo Quality Pages (1/2 credit)

Print a hard copy of 2- 5" x 7" photos that were taken in bit map (bmp) format and 4- 4" x 5" photos in jpeg (jpg) format (approximate sizes). Place these digital camera photos in PageMaker (a desktop publishing program) after enhancing the photographs with Photoshop Elements. Remember to use "PageMaker" to create the documents for printing and use photo quality paper. Use the eMac, iMacs or HPs for this project and the Epson Stylus 740, Canon or HP printers. Do not stretch your jpegs or bmps in PageMaker, however you can shrink the photo by using the shift key with the mouse. Click and drag the corner handle (black square) of the graphic to the preferred shrink size. Save the document in folder #9. [name.pm7]

10. Family Album / Autobiography/ Classmates Album- Web Site or Presentation (1.5 credits)

Create a Family Album, Autobiography or a Senior Classmate Album by using FrontPage, PowerPoint or iMovie. I will accept other themes for this project. Use your research knowledge, technical skills and creative talents on this project. You can scan photos of your favorite pictures. This digital album project can be something worth continuing for your family or friends. Concentrate on "Illustration" and "Design" and other means of capturing an audience for this project creation.

Save this web site directory folder (Front Page) or presentation document (Appleworks; PowerPoint) in #10 folder. Also, save your jpegs, giffs, tiffs, bmps, picts in #10 folder. iMovie will have to be saved on the Lacie Hard Drives or the Snap-Mac server to graded.

11. Collection / Gallery (1.5 credits)

Create a multimedia presentation illustrating a "collection" or "gallery" using Appleworks or PowerPoint. This project requires digital photographs, clip art or scans, text (titles and description). Optional requirements such as sound, CD background music, and special effects can also be incorporated. This presentation should be [8-C;10-B;12-A] slides.

There are many examples of collections such as leaf, trees, insect, and wild flower.

Create a gallery of one of the following categories: Artists, Photographers, Musicians, Musical Instruments, Rock Stars, Classic Cars, Race Cars, Actors, Sports Figures, Famous Historical Figures, Cartoon Characters, dream houses, sports cabins, summer homes. etc. In the text box of the slide give a brief description of the subject such as character development, background information or interesting details. Save this document along with the jpegs, giffs, tiffs, picts, bmps in #11 folder- Collection / Gallery.

12. Instructional Video Demonstration (3 credits)

Create an "Instructional Video Demonstration" that applies to photography and camera equipment. Use Backgrounds, Props, Studio Lighting, Drawings, Illustrations, Music etc. Create a story board, which is a series of thumbnail sketches illustrating a sequence of events dealing with the content or subject matter. Use topics such as lenses, filters, film, flash & studio lighting, and camera manipulation and darkroom special effects. Show the "Instructional Video" to the class and also complete the "Story board" requirement. Learn how to use iMovie or another video editing program in conjunction with a video camera and the digital camera. Save the project on an external firewire Mac Lacie Hard Drive or an HP Media Drive.

 13. Shoot a roll of Color Film (1 credit)

You can also shoot a 24-exposure roll of "color film" for a project assignment. This requirement has to be off campus with your own camera. If you are interested in this photography assignment ask your instructor for more details. The film (prints or slides) has to be processed at a professional lab at your own expense. Shoot a variety of compositions such as :

Digital Project Activity Evaluation

You can negotiate a "Digital Project Grade" according to how many of the above Digital Project Activities you plan to accomplish. Each activity should be done at a quality level respective to the grade you are striving to obtain. Take pride in your project activities!

"Digital Projects" are due three days in advance of the 9 wk. Grading period. Have your projects graded as you complete them to eliminate late penalty problems. If projects are received after the due date, late penalties will be enforced including a zero after the third day late. Approximately 4 projects should be completed by interim. These are major computer lab assignments and and must be completed to a satisfactory level in order to pass the photography course.

Use your 1st , 2nd and 3rd roll of film to produce - 5 quality 5" x 7" prints - plus test exposure strips. A film log and proof sheets for each roll of film are also required. These prints can also be matted for the annual Art Show that is directed by the Bath Art teachers. You may want to investigate local photography contest and enter your digital and B&W projects for awards and monetary prizes.

B&W Projects are also due 3 days before the end of the 9 wk. Grading period.

Remember to organize your digital projects in a Portfolio folder on your zip disk for instructor evaluation.

Send your PowerPoint presentations as attachments through your email. Organize your B&W projects in a folder including: 5x7 Prints - Test Exposure Strips - Negatives -Proof Sheets - Film Log

Use your file server account for "backup" and when saving digital information in the "Windows Lab" or the "T.E. Lab". Use your floppy disks and memory sticks or cards with the "digital camera" for "temporary digital storage".

Use your time wisely and be productive with your in class time. Plan your projects out of class and complete what you can at home, the Windows Lab, the T.E. Lab or any other distributive learning center. These project activities are considered part of your homework.

These assignments are due "three days" before the end of the 2nd / 4th 9 wks. Start these B&W photos and Digital Multimedia Projects now! These major projects are required in order to pass the photography class.
