Grades 10-12 This course is designed to teach a student the fundamentals of photography. The student will become familiar with photographic equipment, materials, methods and processes. Camera manipulation, lighting, lenses, filters, composition, color photography and special darkroom techniques will be studied. Assignments such as landscapes, still life, studio photography, tinting, photo copying, documentary, postcard, portrait, silhouettes, mood, existing light, flash, sports, children, macro photography, pets and sepia-toning will be explored. Black and white photography will be used for film developing and print making. A 35mm camera with manual settings for f-stops and shutter speeds will be required. Models such as: Minolta, Pentax, Nikon, Vivitar, Cannon and Olympus are examples of cameras that are automatic with a manual mode that can be used. A tech-prep module will be incorporated to teach students valuable computer enhancements skills including: understanding the use of desktop publishing; use of a digital camera to capture, alter and print images; how to import/export images; how to navigate on the LAN and use a zip disk to save documents and performing scanning techniques. Students will also explore video production techniques. Computer generated design activities and multimedia projects will be used to teach underlying principles and concepts. Web Quests have been developed to investigate the works of "Master Photographers". The Internet and email will be play a vital communication role in order to explore "the information age".
