Grades 9-12 Students will learn in the lab how to troubleshoot, tune, and repair small gasoline engines such as Tecumseh, Briggs & Stratton, Lawnboy and Koehler. Basic information on engine construction, how the system operates, lubrication requirements, preventative maintenance practices, servicing techniques and rebuilding procedures will be covered. Classroom work includes videos with quizzes. Students will also complete safety tests, exercises and activities using the text for reference. Computer generated material is used to teach underlying principles and concepts as an alternative method of instruction. "Computer Assisted Instruction" is a visually automated and self instructional format that is an interesting and fun way to learn how an engine works. The Internet will be applied for research and investigation of "The Information Age". Utilizing multi sensory laboratory activities creates a rich environment for skill development and problem solving techniques. Learning how to perform troubleshooting tests with specialized equipment and instruments give the students confidence and experience to pursue a higher level of technical school training.
