We will begin registering students for our 2007-2008 kindergarten class the week of February 5-9. Registration will be in the school office. Hours are 9:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. each day. You do not need to bring any information with you when you come to register. You will pick up a kindergarten registration packet and make an appointment to have your child screened. Kindergarten screening dates are March 29, April 12, 19, and 26. To be eligible to enter kindergarten in 2007-2008 your child must be 5 years old by August 1, 2007. Our kindergarten students attend school all day, every day.
Please share this information with anyone you know who has a child eligible for kindergarten. If you have any questions, call the school office.

Franklin Spelling Bee Results
The Delphos City Schools Spelling Bee was held on Wednesday, January 10, at the Middle School. It was a very fine competition. The Franklin champion was fifth grader Ross Thompson. Ross is a student in Mrs. Elaine Sommers' class. His parents are Rusty and Patti Thompson. Ross will represent Franklin Elementary at the Van Wert County Spelling Bee on Thursday, February 8th, at the Marsh Foundation Auditorium in Van Wert. Not only was Ross the Franklin champion but he also won the entire Spelling Bee and was crowned the best speller in the Delphos City Schools! Congratulations Ross!
Rachel Mahlie was the first runner-up. She is a fifth grade student in Mr. Chris Sommers' class. Her parents are Jason and Christine Mahlie. Rachel will represent Franklin Elementary at the Allen County Spelling Bee on Saturday, February 3rd, at St. Charles Elementary in Lima.
Second runner-up was fourth grader, Desteni Lear. She is a student in Mrs. Amanda Smith's class. Her parents are Shane and Barb Lear. Desteni will be the alternate to the Allen County Spelling Bee and will participate if Rachel cannot be there.
We congratulate all three finalists for their great accomplishments and wish good luck to Ross and Rachel as they move on to the county spelling bees.

Optimist Club "Most Improved" Student Award
Congratulations to Macy Pier for being named the Optimist Club "Most Improved" Student for the second grading term from Franklin Elementary! She is a fifth grade student in Mr. Chris Sommers' class. Macy is the daughter of Ms. Tamara Claypool. Macy was chosen for this honor by her teachers because of the improvement she has shown in her academic work and grades since the beginning of the school year. Macy will be recognized for her achievement at the Optimist Club meeting on Friday, February 2nd, at Mary's A & W Restaurant.
Franklin God, Flag and County Contest
At the time that I am writing this newsletter I have nothing to report on our God, Flag and Country Contest. It will be held this coming Wednesday, January 31st. I will have something about the participants and winners in the March Newsletter.
Spring School Pictures
Spring school pictures will be taken on Tuesday, February 27th. A notice about this event will be sent home with your child at a later date. All students will have their pictures taken. A portrait package, price list, and instructions will be sent home later. You will have the option to buy the pictures or send them back to school at no charge.
News from the Franklin Relay For Life Team
The Franklin School Faculty and Staff Relay For Life team will be raffling off a hand-made Delphos Jefferson afghan. The drawing will be held on June 16 at the Relay For Life. The afghan is on display in the Franklin School lobby. Tickets are $1.00 each or 6 for $5.00 and can be purchased before and after school from Mrs. Joyce Wiechart in room 101. Our team is proud to represent the students and families of Franklin School. We appreciate your support for what we feel is a very worthy cause!

Thought for the Month

12 SURE-FIRE WAYS TO RAISE DELINQUENT CHILDREN

1. Begin from infancy to give the child everything he wants. In this way he will grow up to believe the world owes him a living.
2. When he picks up bad words, laugh at him. This will make him think he's cute. It will also encourage him to pick up "cuter" phrases that will blow off the top of your head later.
3. Never give him any spiritual training. Wait till he is twenty-one and then let him "decide for himself."
4. Avoid use of the word "wrong." It may develop a guilt complex. This will condition him to believe that society is against him, and he is being persecuted.
5. Pick up everything he leaves lying around (books, shoes, and clothing). Do everything for him so he will be experienced in throwing responsibility onto others.
6. Let him read any printed matter he can get his hands on. Be careful that the silverware and drinking glasses are sterilized, but let his mind feast on garbage.
7. Quarrel frequently in the presence of your child. In this way he will not be too shocked when the home is broken up later.
8. Give a child all the spending money he wants. Never let him earn his own. Why should he have things as tough as you had them?
9. Satisfy his craving for food, drink, and comfort. See that every sensual desire is gratified. Denial of his desires may lead to harmful frustration.
10. Take his part against neighbors, teachers, and policemen. They are all prejudiced against your child.
11. When he gets into real trouble, apologize for your self saying, "I never could do anything with him."
12. Prepare for a life of grief.
