Scholarship is the willingness to expand one's knowledge to obtain full success.  Scholarly people are not only the people that receive the highest grade, but also those who set reasonable goals and work hard to achieve them.  Every member is a unique individual who shows scholarship through his or her own talents and achievements.  To succeed in these talents a member must put forth great effort, be willing to make sacrifices, and work up to their full potential.  The characteristic of scholarship runs rapid through the halls of Delphos Jefferson and the members of the National Honor Society exemplify the quality of scholarship. Leadership is the ability to inspire the conduct of one or more members using the power of influence.  Leaders have very important roles in society.  They must be positive role models for others around them and also exhibit a willingness to learn.  A major part of being a leader is by setting examples.  The members of the National Honor Society lead others around them by setting a good example.  A leader is also able to work well with other people.  They should be able to share responsibilities with other leaders that are associated with the situation.
What is character?  Character is the qualities that you possess.  You are not born with these qualities, but you choose the qualities as you grow up and become your own person.

Character is a set of qualities that you choose to use in everyday life.  In order to be accepted into National Honor Society, you must possess the best qualities; such as intelligence, honor, and strength.

You must show intelligence in more then just the classroom; you must be intelligent in all of the choices you make in everyday life.  You must be able to know when to turn your shoulder or just say "No."

You must have honor in your school and everything that you do.  Everything you do in school reflects how you think of your school and the teaching staff.

You must show strength of character in all situations, in life and school.  You must show the strength when you are faced with bad situations, in life and school.  You must show the strength to not give up when something gets hard.  You must not remain fallen, but rise up and finish what you started in school and especially in life.

 What is service?  It is something that you do for another person just to merely help them out.  You do not need to receive money or anything in return; just the fulfilling feeling of aiding another

In National Honor Society, you will be aiding others when they need it.  You will be aiding your high school in many ways for many days; even after your graduation.  You will help push the other students in your school by the way you conduct yourself in school.  You will serve your sports team by bringing a positive attitude; whether it's on the football field, volleyball court, basketball court, or baseball field.

Any service you commit yourself to may not pay you in money, but it will pay you in life.  If you work hard in school or sports, you will succeed in anything life will bring you.  Anything you choose to be will help you when you are helping people.  No matter if you're a doctor helping to treat an illness, or if you're a teacher and teaching children; in either case, you're helping others.

If you care enough, you will aid others and improve many lives in the process.  This is what the National Honor Society is about, aiding others just to see how it improves their lives.
