Indusrtial Arts I (1 unit credit) Course 164. This first course on the high school level is a drawing, woodworking, metal, plastics, and electricity course designed to introduce the student in the proper and safe use of power tools, hand tools, and some machinery. Students are required to design and construct projects which will make use of the table saw, jig saw, planer, joiner, shear, box and pan brake, sander, buffer, drill press, and bender. This course is offered as a split-block class. Students will also work with computer hardware. They will learn about a complete computer unit, create network cables, learn terms and identify parts. Fee: $20.00.
Industrial Arts II (1 unit credit) Course 264. Building on what the student has already learned in their first year in Industrial Arts, this second course emphasizes the woodworking area. After an initial six weeks of design, drawing, and a review test over the machines learned the previous year, the student will receive training on the radial arm saw, wood lathe, and band saw. Projects will be required each grading period. The course also covers mass production and basic electricity. This is a blocked class. Students will continue work with computers. They will learn how to update operating systems and Internet Explorer, learn how to load and unload software and drivers, and learn to do software clean-up and repair. Fee: $20.00.
Indusrtial Arts III (1 unit credit) Course 364. This course contains more contact in the construction area for the Industrial Arts student. Some areas covered are home construction and alternative construction. There will also be some work on small engines and possible welding. The student will also review instruction on the metal lathe and the machines used the previous year. Some woodworking projects will also be required. This is a blocked class. Students will continue with more advanced work with computers. Fee: $20.00.
Technical Drawing / Communication (1 unit credit) Course 375. This is to be a beginning course in mechanical drawing (grade 11). The areas of instruction for this course will include basic drafting and mechanical drawing, lettering, sketching, dimensioning, methods of reproduction, print reading, and house plans. Research and discussion topics for the course will include: (1)the history of drafting, (2) drafting as communication, (3)vocational opportunities in drafting. This is a blocked class. Fee: $15.00.
Indusrtial Arts IV (1 unit credit) Course 464. Cabinet-making and millwork is the title of this course open to select students who have shown interest and proven themselves capable during their first three years in Industrial Arts. A comprehensive study of cabinet-making and related lumber technology is provided. Skills developed in previous courses will enable the student to use any or all areas of the shop in designing and building advanced projects. Also electricity (house wiring) and electronics (basics) will be included. Students will continue with more advanced work with computer maintenance, including complete rebuilds and some networking. This is a blocked class. Fee: $20.00.
