4th Annual Relay for Life |
|
Delphos Jefferson High School will hold the Fourth Annual Relay for Life. Last year's event raised a lot of money for cancer research and this year we hope to raise even more. Numerous teams participate and we have even had State Records set by this event. We would love to break our own records from last years event. Get all your friends, classmates, teammates, or family together and form a team for this coming years event. |

7 Reasons Why You Should Help 1. Cancer strikes one out of every three Americans. You or someone you love will fight cancer sometime in their lives. The American Cancer Society has been the leader in the fight against cancer since 1913. 2. Researchers funded by the American Cancer Society have won 33 Nobel Prizes in the last forty years. 3. Researchers who received American Cancer Society research grants have discovered every known method of detecting cancer(ultrasound, MRI's, CAT scans, Mammograms, and more) 4. Every known technique for treating cancer was discovered by American Cancer Society researchers. 5. Your money is spent carefully. The American Cancer Society receives the highest ratings from all philanthropic, watchdog groups and was recognized by Money Magazine for its efficient use of funds. 6. The American Cancer Society is the only anti-cancer organization that conducts local cancer control activities in almost every community in America. 7. The American Cancer Society is dedicated to continuing the fight until cancer is no longer a major health problem. |

Secure a team and register early. Preferably by May 30th. The sooner the better in order to guarantee t-shirts in selected sizes. Early registration offers your team ample time to plan, organize, and raise funds.
Meet with your team as early as possible. Together decide fundraising goals and best methods to reach those goals, discuss Relay schedule, tent needs, decoration themes, food needs, entertainment, and childcare arrangement.
Help them to dedicate his or her efforts and generate enthusiasm about the entire Relay for Life experience, especially the Survivor's Victory Lap and the Luminaria Ceremony at dusk.
Luminary forms, survivor forms, walker envelopes, receipts, and any updates need to be shared with your teammates.
A meeting notice will be mailed and a notice will be in the local paper. If you cannot attend, please send a substitute. Team members are welcome to attend the captain meetings.
Co-ordinate your tent site, be there early to assist setting up, and make sure teammates are familiar with facilities. Identify your team with a banner or sign, post your team's Relay walker's Schedule, and keep an eye on things, are your teammates getting enough rest and fluids? Is your site clean and orderly? Is your team clearly identified so others can find you?
This 21-hour walk/run began in 1985 when Dr. Gordon Klatt, a Tacoma, Washington surgeon, ran and walked on a Tacoma track for 24-hours. He traveled 181 miles and raised $27,000 in direct sponsorships from the community members who ran or walked beside him in half hour shifts. From that experience, Dr. Klatt deemed it feasible for many to participate in the run against Cancer--thus was born a team event, Relay For Life against Cancer.
