
Jefferson scored twice in the sixth and seventh frames Wednesday night to rally past host Perry 6-4 in non-league baseball action.
The late rally gave junior Taylor Hesseling (1-0) the win in 2 2/3 innings of relief (2 hits, 1K) for starter Josh Miller (4 1/3 innings, 2 hits, 4 runs, 3 earned, 10 strikeouts, 4 walks).
Trailing 4-2 in the top of the sixth inning, Adam Kraning walked. Aaron Schuerman singled to right. Pinch-hitter Matt Antalis (Craig Carder) forced the lead runner. Hesseling was hit by a pitch. Pinch-hitter Matt Gerdeman (Damon Joseph) singled to center for both Schuerman and Antalis to score to tie it at 4.
In the Jefferson seventh, Sean Fisher led off the inning with a single to center, then stole second. Josh Miller singled to right to score Fisher. Kraning walked. Two outs later, Hesseling singled to right to score Miller to put the Wildcats up by 2 runs going into the bottom of the inning.
Hesseling finished the game with a leadoff hit by Cockerell. Kirchner bounced out. Stoodt hit a fly ball to center field that Antalis caught and threw to Kraning to get Cockerell out at the plate for the final out, attempting to tag up and score.
Cockerell walked and scored in the first inning on a single to left by Lane to put the hosts up 1-0. In the visitors' second, with two outs, Joseph was hit by a pitch and stole second. Mike Rahrig singled to score Joseph. Cory Bastian doubled to right to score Rahrig for a 2-1 lead.
In the Commodore fifth, Cockerell walked, Kirchner reached on an error and Stoodt walked. Hesseling then came in to pitch. Lane doubled to right to score Cockerell and Kirchner. Miller flew out to left for Stoodt to score and put the hosts up 4-2.
Jefferson (4-4) is at Paulding tonight. Perry falls to 1-4.
