Lady Jeffcats Take 2 From Rams

MCGUFFEY — The Lady Wildcats of Jefferson took their bats to McGuffey Saturday afternoon and swept the Rams of USV (3-11) in a doubleheader 12-2 and 13-3.

The Wildcats (5-6) got great hitting (3-for-4, 1 HR) and solid pitching from senior ace Shauna Bowers, including her 400th career strikeout, in the opener. She whiffed 11.

The Wildcats got two hits apiece from Jenna Miller, Brittney Garza and Courtnie Rostorfer (2 doubles), as well as additional home runs inside the park from Brooke Apple and Tiffany Culp.

In Game 2, it was Apple toeing the rubber to pick up her first win (1-3) allowing just three runs (0 earned); she helped herself going 2-for-4 with 2 runs and 2 RBIs. She got a lot of help from the bats of Megan Moreo (4-for-4, 3 runs scored), Miller (3-for-4, 3 RBIs), Alexis Ricker (2-for-3 with 5 RBIs, including a grand slam) and Rostorfer (2-for-3, 2 RBIs).

The Lady ’Cats return to NWC action tonight, hosting Bluffton.
