High School
The high school Envirothon team competes against 50-100 different teams. Topics that are tested include wildlife, aquatics, forestry, environmental issues, and soil. The location of the tests vary from county to county every year. The top teams go on to a State competition, and the winning team at State goes on to the National Envirothon contest.

Junior High
The junior high Envirothon team is composed of ten junior high science students from the county. They compete at Van Buren State Park against 10-15 schools in the spring. There are five members on a team and each school is represented by two teams. The Envirothon is set up into stations and each team rotates to each station. Each station has a presenter. The speaker talks about a particular science topic. After the presentation, the team takes a test. The test is then scored. At the end of the competition, all the tests are added together for the team and the scores are announced. The winning team has the highest total number of points.
