FREE 2005 ELECTRONIC DATABASES

 


Because of our membership in INFOhio, students and teachers will have access to 160 databases that they can use for research or classroom materials from January 15 to March 15, 2005.  In order to access these databases you must log on (using the passwords provided below) at the following Internet address

When you get to the Electronic Resource Vender Preview 2005 page, scroll down the page and just click on the title of whichever database you want to use.  It will take you right to it.   If you have any problems see Mrs. Besecker for instructions.  Most of the files need usernames and passwords, which are included on the first screen of the Internet site for each database.  They are also listed below.   Just click on the icon for each database you wish to use and then type in the username and password when prompted.

Remember that most databases allow you to e-mail the articles to your home or to your school e-mail address.  You can then browse the articles at your leisure even after the free preview expires.  You can also print any article, map or graphic you think you might want.

Continuously tracks the changes in the world.  Provides the most comprehensive and concise economic, political, social, environmental and corporate data on 192 countries. It includes an online collection of over 170 maps.

CQ PRESS ELECTRONIC LIBRARY- http://www.infohio.org/ER/Preview2005/CQpress2005.html This database contains up to date information on controversial, current issues.  It also includes information and explanations on Supreme Court cases and a database of government information.  This is highly recommended for students doing research on contemporary issues.  The Electronic Encyclopedia of American Government provides over 1,100 searchable topics covering the three branches of American government

ENCYCLOPEDIA BRITANNICA- http://www.infohio.org/ER/Preview2005/EB2005.html This database includes the entire Encyclopedia Britannica updated daily.  It also includes the Webster's Third New International Dictionary, Unabridged Online - The largest, most comprehensive American dictionary. Also included is the World Data Analyst online.

Includes a database on Issues and Controversies on File. The Facts on File World News Digest, The World Almanac Online and Today's Science on File.  This also has a database entitled Facts for Learning, which is an elementary and middle school based database.

                Includes a section of visual reference materials that can be printed, used in handouts, overheads etc.  Great place to get maps

 Includes databases in the subject areas of News, Legal Research, Legislation, and Statistics (including the Statistical Abstract of the United States).  This is an excellent database that is used extensively at colleges and universities.  It also includes lots of information on current issues.
