Projectile Sled Project for Projection

The Projectile Sled Project will help students learn visually and tactually about motion and force.

Objectives:

1.      Work in teams

2.      Collect useful data for analysis.

3.      Use data and plot for analysis.

4.      Use data to predict a future out come.

5.      Test prediction.

The purpose of the Projectile Sled Project is to have students work together to launch a small projectile repeatedly using various forces and gather the necessary data to set up a mathematic equation to predict future outcomes, then test these predictions.

A Team consists of the following positions with at least these responsibilities:

·         The Marker:

o   Follow all safety guidelines

o   Know the location of all the participants

o   Memorize and follow Marker Safety guidelines and procedures

o   Mark the location where the projectile hits the ground

o   Help measure where the projectile lands

o   Help with data collection, analysis and predictions

o   Make and Collect and Keep Landing Markers

·         The Timer / Recorder:

o   Follow all safety guidelines

o   Know the location of all the participants

o   Memorize and follow Timer / Recorder guidelines and procedures

o   Keep the written record of all data collected and turn in at the end of the project

o   Enter all data into Excel spread sheet and submit to online folder

·         The Releaser:

o   Follow all safety guidelines

o   Know the location of all the participants

o   Memorize and follow Releaser guidelines and procedures

o   Help measure where the projectile lands

o   Help with data collection, data entry and analysis and predictions

·         The Puller:

o   Follow all safety guidelines

o   Know the location of all the participants

o   Memorize and follow Puller guidelines and procedures

o   Help measure where the projectile lands

o   Help with data collection, data entry and analysis and predictions

Each team must have at least one team member qualified for each of the above responsibilities!

Any team member may qualify for more than one position.

Each team must have at least 3 different people qualified for at least one of each of the 4 different positions (one Marker, one Timer/Recorder, one Releaser, and one Puller). Teams that do not have at least one of each of the four will be reassigned to another team.

Anyone who does not qualify for at least one position will be given alternant assignments.
