Fifth Grade
Homework
Policy
Homework plays
an important role throughout the school year; it allows students the opportunity
to practice skills, which they’ve learned throughout their education.
The skills may have been taught the day the homework is assigned, within
a previous unit, or even within other grade levels.
If homework is a struggle because the skills needed don’t seem to
present, there are ways to receive assistance.
They include:
1.
Check
available references for information regarding the homework (student reference
books, textbooks, notes & hand-outs).
2.
Contact
the teacher for additional assistance via e-mail or telephone.
Each can be reached at school (419-293-3286) or:
a.
Mr.
Huffman (Science & Language Arts)
b.
Ms.
Damschroder (Intervention Specialist with Mr. Huffman)
c.
Mrs.
Ewing (Social Studies & Language Arts)
d.
Mrs.
Simons (Math & Language Arts)
During each nine weeks students are expected to turn in all homework
assignments. When students fail to complete and turn in homework assignments,
the following consequences will occur:
·
3 Missed Assignments—Anytime a student fails to turn in three homework
assignments during a nine week grading period, they will not attend the end of
the nine weeks reward event. Additionally,
parents will be contacted. Parent-teacher agenda signing will begin for a
minimum of two to four weeks.
·
6 Missed Assignments-- When a student fails to turn in a total of six
homework assignments a conference will be held with the student.
Parents will be contacted, and the student may be placed in the Pyramid
of Interventions. The Pyramid of
Intervention is a list of strategies/interventions that teachers use in an
attempt to create student success (see attached).
