This nine weeks the students in first grade have been:

1. Recognizing the "singing voice" as their instrument.

2. Recognizing the difference between "singing voice," and "talking" or "speaking" voice

3. Speaking together in rhyme.

4. Clapping, tapping, and playing instruments with a steady beat.

5. Learning to sing, handsign and play all of the melodic pitch syllables. (do, re,mi, fa, so, la, ti, do)

6. Practice following the teacher and/or other student leaders in actions.

7. Reading music icons (or pictures) which represent notes and written music.

8. Learning to start, stop, and stay together when singing and performing.

9. Listening to determine if sounds are "the same" or "different" and matching the melodic pitch of the teacher.

Our listening activity this month was: Variations on "Ah vous dirai-je Maman" (or "Twinkle, Twinkle Little Star") written by Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart.
