College-Bound Student-Athletes
Now is the time for college-bound student-athletes in the junior class to register with the NCAA Eligibility Center if they plan on participating in college athletics. Early registration promotes positive planning and involvement, bypasses the last-minute rush and helps college-bound student-athletes avoid issues that may delay their academic and amateur certifications. The registration process is easy and can be done by:
1. Logging on to the Eligibility Center's new Web site at www.eligibilitycenter.org;
2. Selecting the “Fall 2010 or After” icon;
3. Selecting the “New Account” tab at the top of the screen; and
4. Beginning the registration process.
Reminder to college-bound student-athletes that they need to apply to the college or university they are interested in attending. Some student-athletes think that because they are being recruited or because they have registered with the Eligibility Center, they do not need to apply for admission. A reminder also to college-bound student-athletes and their parents that athletics eligibility and admission to a college or university are two separate processes and that both need to be completed.

Seniors applying for the Marie Berry Scholarship:
Deadline is 4/1/10. This is an in office deadline not postmark. Also, they have received several unsigned applications. Please remind your seniors to review the application before submission and to make sure they have signed. In addition, we need the complete FAFSA/SAR which includes adjusted gross income and number of family members. We have received just the first page with a few apps which includes the expected family contribution but not the additional information.
|
College Bound Seniors/Scholarships:
1. Reminder to look at the scholarship list in the guidance office.
2. If you have not secured your references, ask now! Even a weeks notice may not be enough time for some staff to write your recommendation.
3. Give Mrs. Riepenhoff plenty of time to complete any needed paperwork. Now is a busy time in the guidance office, very likely that she cannot get you what you need the same day you give it to her!!!!
4. Community Foundation Scholarships: REMEMBER to complete ONE application and give section 4 to Mrs. R BEFORE you make your copies! Also give Mrs. R. the “transcript request page” so she knows how many copies of your transcript to make.
5. Know when the FAFSA is due to your college of choice. If you have not completed FAFSA- you must ASAP!

Parents of College Bound Underclassmen (Juniors, Sophomores, Freshmen):
The FAFSA4caster is a great way to get an early start on the financial aid process! It can instantly calculate Federal Student Aid eligibility. You may ask why this is important now? This tool can help you determine how your student is going to pay for college and help you through the planning process before college applications are due. The FAFSA4caster can simplify the financial aid process by describing the different Federal Student Aid programs, give you information on Aid eligibility requirements, give you an overview of the Federal Financial Aid process, provide an estimated Expected Family Contribution (EFC), and reduce your time completing the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) when your student is a senior.
This tool is free! Who should use the FAFSA4caster? Anyone who wants to “kick-start” the financial aid process, especially parents of high school juniors, parents of younger students, and non-traditional students (adult learners).
**Please note*** This is an ESTIMATE of eligibility based on the current laws and information you provide. Changes in your income, household size, or other factors may affect eligibility when your student completes the FAFSA.
To find out more about the FAFSA4caster and to get started, go to: www.FederalStudentAid.ed.gov

Seniors:
If you are completing the Community Foundation Scholarships the due date is an “in house” not postmark date of April 1st. If you have not already, get your transcript request page and section 4 to Mrs. Riepenhoff ASAP!

Collections
There is a bucket in the cafeteria to collect the plastic caps off bottles for cancer treatment patients. Instead of throwing them away, help someone in need.
Also, we are collecting the pop top openers for Ronald McDonald House. There are containers that look like a little house for those (one is in Mrs. Hendrix's room). |
