Constitution
for the
McComb Middle School Academic Boosters
Approved July 23, 1998
Article I
Name
Section One. The name of this organization shall be the McComb Middle School Academic Boosters.
Article II
Purposes
Section One. The McComb Middle
School Academic Boosters was formally organized in October, 1996.
Initially organized to administer an 8th grade trip to Washington D.C., its
purposes were expanded in
April, 1997.
Section Two. The purposes of
this organization shall be:
A. To connect and build positive relationships among middle school
parents, teachers, and students.
B. To work together with teachers, school staff, and administration to
build a positive school climate through
through the sponsorship of such activities as Teacher/Staff Appreciation Week,
Middle School Education
Month, Parents'/Grandparents' Week, etc.
C. To support with a spirit of volunteerism education and student activities
in the middle school. These
activities include the magazine drive, student assemblies and field trips, movie
day, field day,
outdoor education camp, Put-in-Bay, Washington D.C., the various academic organizations,
and
classroom volunteers.
D. To provide financial support for the above programs and other items that go
beyond the scope of the
regular school budget.
Article III
Membership
Section One. Any parent/guardian of a middle
school age student attending McComb Middle School is welcome to attend
Middle School Academic Boosters Meetings.
Article IV
Executive Committee
Section One. The Executive Committee shall consist of four persons from each grade level (6-8) and the treasurer.
Section Two. The Executive Committee shall:
A. act as the governing body of the Middle School Boosters, assign duties,
and be responsible for all
committees of this organization.
B. report its transactions to all members.
Section Three. Each Executive Committee person shall have one vote.
Article V
Officers
Section One. Officers shall be a moderator, timekeeper, recorder, equalizer, provider (2) and treasurer.
Section Two. All officers with the exception
of the treasurer shall rotate positions periodically as decided by the members
of the Executive Committee. The treasurer will be a fixed position for one
year.
Article VI
Elections
Section One. Applications for Executive
Committee positions will be posted by April. These applications will be
reviewed
and acted upon by the Executive Committee no later that June 15.
Section Two. Two Executive Committee members
will be awarded one year terms, the remaining two members will be
given two year terms. Lottery will initiate this process.
Article VII
Committees
Section One. The Boosters shall have such
committees as are necessary to carry out responsibilities and programs of the
organization.
Section Two. Committees shall be appointed by the Executive Committee.
Section Three. A coordinator shall be appointed by the Executive Committee to head each committee.
Section Four. The coordinator shall inform the Executive Committee promptly of all committee actions.
Article VIII
Amendments
Section One. Amendments to this constitution
shall be proposed in writing to the Executive Committee. A proposed
constitutional change cannot be approved at the same meeting it was
proposed. At least 10 days must
have lapsed between proposal and approval.
Section Two. A three-fourths majority of the
Executive Committee membership shall be necessary to approve an
amendment to this constitutions.

Article I
Meetings
Article II
Quorum
Section One. The quorum shall be seven
Executive Committee members. At least one representative of each class
shall
be represented in the quorum.
Article III
Duties of Officers
Section One. Moderator
A. Presides over meetings.
B. Works cooperatively with the building administrator to prepare and
distribute agendas before each
meeting.
C. Sees that agendas are received by Executive Committee members prior to
the meeting.
Section Two. Timekeeper
A. Keeps meeting on schedule.
B. Establish time limits on discussion.
Section Three. Recorder
A. Prepares meeting minutes.
B. Submits articles to both the Middle School Newsletter and The
Reader. Anyone submitting articles to
The Courier, The Middle School Newsletter, and The Reader,
etc. should coordinate these with the
recorder.
Section Four. Equalizer
A. Calls all members before each meeting.
B. Ensures that everyone at the meeting has an opportunity to speak.
Section Five. Provider (2)
A. Provides refreshments for the membership of the committee.
Section Six. Treasurer (The treasurer shall be
an 8th grade parent. The treasurer shall utilize the services of a 7th
grade
grade parent assistant.)
A. Accounts for the cash balance.
B. Deposits receipts.
C. Pays bills.
D. Keeps track of 8th grade student D.C. Trip accounts.
E. Prepares financial reports for meetings of the Executive Committee.
Article IV
Membership Year
Section One. Changes to these by-laws shall be
proposed to the Executive Committee in writing. Approval of any change
cannot occur at the same meeting as the change was proposed. At least 10
days must have lapsed between
the proposal and approval stages.
Section Two. Approval of an amendment to the by-laws may occur with a simple majority vote of the total membership (7).
