Interview with Mrs. Nancy Knapke

1.   Why did you decide to rebury the Indian skull?

She did tours for the museum and after one of the tours a man named Don Rapp came and asked her if they could rebury the Shawnee Indian Skull.

2.Why did Don Rapp want the skull reburied?

He wanted it reburied because the Indian’s spirit will never rest until it is buried.

3.How did you know it was a Shawnee Indian?

They sent it to Ball State archaeology center. There they saw it had a different skull like Indians have and it had a bullet hole. From they the took a guess and said it was a Shawnee Indian because that was what tribe was around here at the time.

4.When was the Indian skull buried?

It was buried on September 10, 1983.

5.Why did you pick this date?

We picked the date because it is the date of the original burying.

6.What is the original burying?

 The original burying was of bones of soldiers who fought in the battle.

7.How did you bury the Indian skull?

We buried it in the Shawnee Indian ways.
