What It Takes to Earn an
Class of 2007 and beyond
There are testing requirements
and curriculum requirements connected with the
I. Curriculum Requirements (state minimum)
English language arts: 4 units Health:
½ unit Mathematics:
3 units
Physical education: ½
unit Science:
3 units* Social
studies: 3 units**
Electives: 6 units***
* Science units must include 1
unit of biological sciences and 1 unit of physical sciences.
** Social Studies units must
include ½ unit of American history and ½ unit of American
government.
*** Electives units must include
1 unit or 2 half units in Business/Technology, Fine Arts, or Foreign language.

A student may
meet the testing requirements for passing all five Ohio Graduation Tests if
he/she meets ALL of the following criteria:
• Passes 4 of the five tests
and has missed passing the 5th test by no more than 10 points;
• Has a 97 % attendance rate,
excluding any excused absences, through all four years of high school and must
not have had an expulsion in high school;
• Has at least a grade point
average of 2.5 out of 4.0 in the courses of the subject area not yet passed;
• Has completed the high school
curriculum requirement;
• Has participated in any
intervention programs offered by the school and must have had a 97 % attendance
rate in any programs offered outside the normal school day; and
• Has letters recommending graduation
from the high school principal and from each high school teacher in the subject
area not yet passed.
NOTE: As specified in the Ohio
Revised Code (Section 3313.615), this alternate way to meet the testing requirement
only applies to students graduating after September 15, 2006.
FRHS Required Courses for the 2008-2009 School Year:
Freshman Required Courses (class of 2012): Students have 1 cr. of 8th grade Physical Science and .25 cr.
8th grade P.E.

Sophomore Required Courses (class of 2011):

Juniors:
Required Courses (class of 2010):

English:
(English 11 or Advanced English 11)

Science:
(Action Chemistry, Chemistry, AP Chemistry, Anatomy/Physiology, Physics)
**Juniors who took Agri-Science 1
& 2 have earned 1.0 credits in science, and may not need an additional
science course

A Math Course
**Juniors who attend Tri-Star will do so in the morning, and will take 4
classes in the afternoon at FRHS.
Seniors:
Required Courses (class of 2009):
·
English:
(English 12, AP Literature and Composition, or Business English &
Comm.)
·
World History (or AP World History)
·
College bound seniors are strongly encouraged to
take a Math, Science, and Fine Arts course.
**Seniors who attend Tri-Star will do so in the afternoon, and will take
3 (possibly 4) classes in the morning at FRHS. Agri-Business 2 Co-op students will take
a minimum of 4 classes in the morning at FRHS.

Students
wishing to attend a 4-year college should take a minimum of the
above requirements listed on p. 3 including Algebra 1, Algebra 2, Geometry, 2
years of the same foreign language, and one credit in fine arts. Agri-Science
is not considered a college-prep science. Senior schedules should include:
English, Math, Science, Social Studies, Foreign Language, and Fine Arts, if
possible. Many colleges look at a
student’s course selection and rigor as part of the admission
process. A transcript with good
quality courses speaks volumes!
Students
who want to take college classes through the Post Secondary
Enrollment Option (PSEO) Program must attend the informational
meeting on February 26, 2008 in the HS Commons at 7:00 p.m. Both the student and a parent must
attend this meeting to be informed of the program advantages/disadvantages as
well as procedures for scheduling to be eligible. Interested PSEO students must register
their intent in the Guidance Office by March 30th of each year.
