Welcome to my homepage.  I will provide changing information on topics of interest on this page, but feel free to check my other links for information on those specific topics.  I am always available to answer questions—either in person at a conference or on the phone.  You are welcome to contact me here at school or to check on my personal page for my home phone number. Also, I daily read e-mail so feel free to contact me using the computer.  The following is the mission statement concerning the course of study used.

Statement

The intended purpose of the Mercer County Counseling Course of Study is to facilitate counseling activities in Mercer County…(It) was reviewed and approved by the Governing Board of the Mercer county Educational Service Center for use in the Mercer county School Districts, effective August, 2002.

The Mercer County Educational Service Center Schools’ Counseling Program employs a developmental approach, which attempts to help students gain skills necessary for dealing with everyday challenges of growing up in a complex society.  The counseling staff will facilitate this process through individual and group counseling, consultations with staff, parents, and community resources and with yearly evaluations and planning.

Mercer County school counselors exercise sound professional judgment.  Parent permission is not necessarily a prerequisite to students receiving counseling.  The American counseling Association Code of Ethics shall be upheld.  Sections especially relevant to counseling students are as follows:

*  The primary responsibility of counselors is to respect the dignity and promote the welfare of students.

*  Counselors recognize that families, as well as other personnel (teachers, principals, etc.), are an integral part of student’s lives and strive to enlist their understanding and involvement as a positive resource when appropriate.  When counseling minors, parents or guardians may be included in the counseling process as deemed appropriate.

*  Students have a right to expect confidentiality and to be provided with an explanation of its limits.

*  The general requirement that counselors keep information confidential does not apply when disclosure is required to prevent clear and imminent danger to the student or others or when legal requirements demand that confidential information be revealed.  A notable exception to confidentiality is mandated child abuse reporting to the Department of Job and Family Services.

I am always looking for information that will benefit parents, students, and teachers.  Many resources are available on the internet that are very useful.  I will list a few of these websites and change them as I find new or better sites.  I will try to keep them linked by subject area.
