The Fort Recovery State Museum offers visitors a glimpse of the 1790's. Inside the museum you will find life-size figures of General Anthony Wayne's soldiers loading a Howitzer, a statue of an Indian, military artillery, and many artifacts found around the Fort Recovery area. The Fort Recovery State Museum has an extensive collection of Indian artifacts -- some dating back as far as the Paleo-Indian era of 10,000 B.C.!
Immediately outside of the museum there are reconstructed blockhouses and a stockade. Additionally, a typical pioneer cabin displays life back in the 1830's. The Franke Historical Walkway allows visitors to amber around the grounds, with signs along the way listing many historical dates and items of interest.
The Fort Recovery State Museum is located near the intersection of State Routes 119 and 49 in Fort Recovery. From June through August the museum is open from 12:00 pm to 5:00 pm, seven days a week. During the months of May and September the museum will be open on weekends. Group tours are available by appointment. Call 375-4649 or 1-800-283-8920 for more information.
