Principal’s Report April 9, 2007
Ohio Achievement Test information I have been in contact with the junior high staff about the Booster sessions to be held the weeks before the test. Mr. Langhals, Science, indicated that with the test being moved back he will be able to work with the students during his class time. He is using the question from past test and Study Island to review. His students will take a test and then as a group they will break it down and review any standards the students seem to be week on. Mr. Miller, Math (7), will be doing very much the same as Mr. Langhals. Mr. Miller feels the students in seventh grade have covered the standards and they will be able to review during class time. Mrs. Kemler and Mrs. Homier, Math (8), both feel it would be a good idea to give the students some after school review. Mrs. Gudakunst, Social Studies, feels the same. She feels a review of what has been covered would be beneficial. The time and dates for these sessions will be Monday the 16th through Thursday the 19th and again Monday the 23rd through Thursday the 26th. We will have staff here to work with the students from 3:00 to 4:00. Reading and Language both feel that with the way they are teaching in class they feel they are covering and reviewing the material. A letter will be sent home early next week explaining the times and dates. D.C Trip The 8th grade D.C. trip was a very positive experience for those who attended. For those students who did not attend we provided many educational opportunities for them. They constructed life size boats from cardboard and duct tape. To test the buoyancy of the boats the students were taken to the Y in Van Wert. The students were given a lesson on “Roller Coasters”, cooked a meal for the staff, and hear Mr. Gale Scarbrough speak to them about believing in themselves and their futures. Mr. shared his experiences with both 7th and 8th grade students on Friday. This was a great opportunity for our students to hear the success of a Grover Hill graduate and realize they too can be successful. Scheduling Scheduling is ahead of schedule. Mr. Alt is seeking input from the staff which is making the process a team effort. We should have the schedules set and each student and teacher will have their schedule before they leave for summer. I don’t have numbers for the Findlay classes at this time but before the board meeting I should have a better idea of how many students are taking each course for credit. FFA Banquet Ms. Heiby and the FFA students held their banquet on Friday. It was an outstanding banquet with many students receiving awards. This months events The NHS trip is scheduled for April 14th – April
17th. Cheerleading Mr. Linder set up an informational meeting for Thursday April 5th for any parents who want to attend and learn what changes are taking place with cheerleading next year. Mr. Linder and I have researched the changes and feel they are best for our program. I can give more detail at the board meeting if you are interested.
Report to the Wayne Trace Board of Education Monday, April 9, 2007 Wayne Trace Grover Hill Elementary – Alan Lautzenheiser, Principal 1. March Students of the Month – Danielle Miles; Alex Fast; Grady Gudakunst; Caleb Mead; Shannon Boroff; Logan Fast; Elizabeth Brown; Bryce Eutsler; Sydney Hoffmann; Clint Sinn; Daniel Sinn; Sara Sinn; Hailey Dempsey; Adia Welch; Bryan Hofmann 2. The OAT Booster Sessions are set and will be held: April 14; April 21; and April 28. Letters have been sent home to parents in students in grades 3-6 encouraging them to take advantage of this opportunity. 3. We received some good news from the ODE. My request for a waiver to exceed the 1% cap on Alternative Assessment for some of our handicapped children was allowed up to 2.8%. This means that all 16 of the students in the district that we alternatively assessed will be able to have their scores count towards our district report card. I was surprised that we were allowed this limit. Last year we were approved for 1.8% which is what the federal government allows the state. We had several students move into the district this year that had Alternative Assessment called for on their IEP which put us over 2% of tested students. 4. COSI on Wheels will be coming to WTGH on April 24. The all day assembly will include activities on the theme “What’s Wild”. This will focus on the animal and plant life found in various areas of Ohio. We will be using 15 to 20 local volunteers to assist with this program. 5. Ms. Sinn and Mrs. Davis will attend the training for the high school staff on Progress Book. While the Jr/Sr High will begin implementing Progress Book next year, Ms. Sinn and Mrs. Davis will be utilizing it as well to familiarize themselves with the program so they can be utilized as resource people with the WTGH staff when we implement Progress Book in the fall of 2008. 6. Kindergarten Screening is scheduled for April 20 at WTGH. As of this report we are at 30 children who have signed up to go through screening 7. Ohio Achievement Tests will be given to students in grads 3-6 the week of April 30. Teachers are continuing to cover and review grade level benchmarks and standards with their students. Social Studies and Science OAT’s will be given for the first time to the 5th grade students. I would like to commend Janey Janka, Andrew Ludwig, Logan Fast, and Madison McClure for passing all modules available on Study Island in science for 4th and 5th grade.
To: Mr. Gerber, Mr. Baumle, Mr. Hockenberry, Mrs. McClure, Mr. Sinn, Mr. Stoller, and Mr. Wannemacher From: Sarah Deatrick Date: April 2, 2007 Subject: Principal’s Report for April 1- As of 4/3/07, WT Payne Elementary has 17 students who have earned between 100 and 199.9 AR points, 4 students who have earned between 200 and 299.9 AR points, and 4 students who have earned between 300 and 399.9 points, with one student having 391.8. Students in grades two through six have passed 10,825 AR tests so far this year. 2- April 17th and 18th a Scott Foresman Representative will be coming to WT Payne and WT Grover Hill to talk to the teachers about their reading series. This series is state specific to Ohio. 3- Again the WT Payne Elementary Gym will be used to host the Annual Basketball Marathon on April 6th and 7th. We are very thankful to have a facility that can be used for so many different things for the community and the kids. 4- We will again be assessing all students in grades K-6 using Dibels and Aimsweb. This assesses various parts of reading and math. I would like to thank Michelle Berry, Jennifer Moran and Marti Overmyer for helping organize this and giving so much of their time to assess the students and organize the results. This is very beneficial to the teachers and the students. 5- WT Payne will hold our Kindergarten Screening on Friday, April 13th. As of 4/3/07, we have 42 students signed up for registration. 6- On April 12th, WT Payne will host our Battle of the Books contest in the library at 1pm. The County Battle of the Books will be held on April 24th at the fairgrounds. 7- Our teachers and students are busy getting ready for the Ohio Achievement Tests which begin on April 30th. They have worked all year on learning and mastering the skills based on the Standards, now they are working on reviewing and working on those skills. With the Study Island and its Benchmark tests, the students have been able to practice taking the OAT. The test is set up much like that of the OAT, and the computer automatically scores it. The teachers are also able to pull up many different kinds of reports to see how the students did. They can see the score for each student, but they can also break it down into standards or for each question and what that question was assessing. This has been very valuable to the staff, and I have heard many positive comments. |
