enrollment was 230 juniors and 233 seniors.
Report of the Building Principals –
Mr. Lautzenhieser presented the
circumstances that led to applying for the Cooper Foundation grant.
With cuts in grant programs a very successful intervention program in
Math would have to be curtailed and/or eliminated but through the
generosity of the Cooper family we are able to continue the programs.
This grant for $6,000 will pay for a tutor 2 days per week to work with
the students.
Committee Reports
Mr. Baumle of the Personnel committee
presented the Board with a new Superintendent Evaluation form for their
approval.

Homecoming
This year Homecoming week
was a very busy week. In an attempt to get as many students involved
(active) as possible the members of the Student Council came up with
many different activities. A few of the activities were athletic while
others such as a chess and checkers tournament were created to increase
total student participation. The senior class was the overall winners
for this week and will receive pizza as their prize. A change from last
year was that the Student Council members voted not to reveal the King
and Queen until the ceremony before the football game.
On Saturday night the
Homecoming Dance was held with great student attendance. I would like
to thank Ms. Fisher and the Student Council members for all their hard
work in preparing this fun-filled week and also Mrs. Annette Sinn and
the sophomore class for a wonderful evening filled with dancing.
Staff Professional
Development
During our last staff
meeting we discussed different assessment methods. The goal is to make
sure we give our students a balance of different assessments. The two
assessment methods discussed were Formative and Summative. As the year
goes along our teachers will be working toward achieving this balance in
assessment.
Testing
The week of October 22nd
we will be giving the OGT to any junior or senior who has not yet passes
one or more sections. Last week we did receive the results from the
summer testing and it was well worth the time. We had four students
complete this requirement for graduation. One of those students was a
member of the class of 2007 and will be receiving their diploma because
of the summer testing. Jessica Davis was the staff member who taught
during the week of instruction and did a great job with all the
students.
Student Leadership
Wednesday the 10th
of October Mrs. Fisher will be taking a group of student leaders to
Defiance for a Leadership Conference. This event has always been
beneficial for our students. Last month I included in my report an
opportunity to take 21 underclass students to Reading, Michigan for a
Leadership Retreat. The dates we were looking at have been filled so we
will be looking at some possible spring dates.
To: Mr. Gerber, Mr. Baumle, Mr. Hockenberry, Mrs.
McClure, Mr. Sinn, Mr. Stoller, and Mr. Wannemacher
From: Sarah Deatrick
Date: October, 2007
Subject: Principal’s Report for October
1- Grandparents’ Day celebrations went well. We
had over 200 adults join us for lunch.
2- We will be meeting with the ScottForesman
representative on Tuesday the 9th to discuss their social
studies series.
3- We will have our Halloween Parade on the 31st
at 1:30pm.
4- The first Market Day month went very well. We
had 110 orders that totaled $4300. Because we had over 100 customers
during our first month, we also earned an additional $100. We will
continue Market Day each month through June.
5- As of 9/29 our students have answered 75,126
Study Island questions.
6- On October 2nd, our 3rd
Graders took the Fall Reading Ohio Achievement Test. Results are due
November 9th.
7- We have already had two students reach over 100
AR points this nine weeks. The new program allows us to access all AR
quizzes which is over 100,000. One student commented that she ran out
of books to read last year, and she was excited she would have more
options. The Payne and Paulding libraries are aware of how to access
that list. It is accessible at www.renlearn.com.
Report to
the Wayne Trace Board of Education
Monday, October 8, 2007
Wayne Trace Grover Hill Elementary
Alan Lautzenheiser, Principal
1. Students of the Month for September are: Kobe
Smith; Claire Sinn; Emily Williams; Noah Hasch; Megan Moore; Gracie
Gudakunst; Emil Stoller; Allie Boroff; Luke Miller; Emily Beech; Kelsee
Rittenhouse; Alexis Flores; Bailey Poling; Justin Letutour; and Leigha
Flores.
2. Professional Development – Carol Swary met with
teachers in grades 3-6 recently at WTGH. The purpose of this meeting
was to go over what constitutes AYP and other factors that impact our
building and district report card. We also trained staff in the
utilization of the Success website to analyze OAT data and develop
strategies for implementation in the curriculum of methods to address
what the data has shown us about individual pupil performance.
3. The third grade students took the fall Ohio
Achievement Test in reading the week of October 1.
4. The 21st Century After School
Program will begin the week of October 15. The focus of the academic
portion of the program will be in the curriculum areas of reading and
math. Both sections of the program filled up quickly with students
already on the waiting list. We are excited that the 21st
Century Grant was able to be renewed for another five years.
5. We are also excited to receive a Cooper Foods
Grant to be used in the area of math intervention. The loss of Ohio
Reads and the reduction of Title 1 money has put a real crimp on our
intervention opportunities. Last year when we thought the 21st
Century grant would not be renewed, I wrote a Cooper Grant to try to
continue an effective intervention program. The Cooper Grant will allow
us to continue math intervention at WTGH as well as augmenting the 21st
Century money which is reduced under the new grant.
6. Ray and I have examined the damage from our
vandalism incident. Ray’s attempts to clean the material from the side
of the building have not been successful. It will probably require
sandblasting. The rental of a sandblaster and materials will likely cost
in the neighborhood of $600-$700 dollars. |
