Report to the Wayne Trace Board of Education
November Board Meeting
Wayne Trace Grover Hill Elementary - Alan R. Lautzenheiser, Principal

1. Students of the Month – Alexis Gibson, Reid Miller, Bryan Hoffmann, Olivia Egnor, Leah Maassel, Owen Denny, Korene Shelton, Austin Fast, Brianna Sinn, Samantha Hinchcliff, Taylor Cupps, Shannon Boroff, Kayla Thompson, Leigha Flores, and Danielle Miles

2. Textbook Adoption – The materials from the Social Studies textbook adoption have begun to arrive from Scott Foresman. We are in the process of checking these materials in for WTPE and WTGH. The materials will be implemented in the classroom by the end of the first semester.

3. In-Service – The two recent professional development opportunities for our staff have been very effective. The curriculum mapping time has been well used. I had the opportunity to work with the upper elementary and junior high teachers in October and with the primary teachers in November. Both groups are making good progress in developing and implementing assessments that reflect the benchmarks and indicators that are being taught from the state standards.

4. Study Island – Students at WTGH have answered over 65,000 questions so far on Study Island. This does not reflect the Study Island questions and materials that are utilized during regular classroom instruction by the teachers.

5. AED Training – Six staff members at WTGH recently received training in infant, child, and adult CPR, as well as AED training. School Nurse, Wendy Baumle conducted the training. The training was done in conjunction with Akron General Medical Center and the Grover Hill EMS. This training has made it possible for WTGH to receive an AED machine at no cost. The staff members who were trained are: Mrs. Beth Bauer; Mrs. Peggy Glick; Mrs. Jessica Davis; Mrs. Tricia Beining; Mrs. Sandra Lemieux; and myself. The staff of the 21st Century Program will be receiving this training as well as training in communicable diseases, child abuse identification, and first aid as part of the state requirements for that program.

6. Veteran’s Day – Veteran’s Day at WTGH was observed on Friday, November 9. A program was held at 10:00 a.m. under the leadership of social studies teacher, Jessica Davis. Area veterans were invited to come and eat lunch, compliments of the school with our students.

7. Parent-Teacher Conferences – Teachers are preparing for Parent-Teacher Conferences on November 19 and 20. Elementary teachers from WTPE and WTGH will meet at WTGH during the day on the 19th for technology professional development. This program was developed by the technology committees at each building and building teachers will share with their peers different ways that they have integrated technology into the curriculum here at the elementary level. Parent-Teacher conferences will take place on that day from 5:30-8:30. Conferences will be held on November 20 from 1:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. I am interested in seeing whether the change in dates has an impact on our attendance at WTGH.

8. Assembly – Friday, November 16, WTGH will host an assembly titled Crime Scene Science. This assembly will allow students to learn how science is incorporated in real occupations and situations.

9. AR – I would like to salute 3 WTGH students who have reached the 100 point level in the Accelerated Reading program this year. Those students are: Andrew Ludwig; Mackenzie Haney, and Bailey Poling. These students received t-shirts to reward their accomplishments. We also held a pizza party for those students who achieved their AR goals the first nine weeks. We had 50 students at WTGH reach their goals the first nine weeks.

High School Principal’s Report
November 15, 2007
Kevin E. Wilson, Principal

Progress Book is up and running at the high school.  On Friday the 2nd along with grade cards home we included a letter to the parents explaining what Progress Book is and how they could access it.  Progress Book will allow the students as well as the parents to monitor their grades.  Research shows that if a student can track their grades they seem to do better than if they don’t.

With cold weather approaching Kenny has been testing the boilers to make sure they are operating properly.  He did find a few problems with the computer programming and has everything running fine.  The past few weeks with the cold mornings and warm afternoons Kenny started the boilers to get the building up to temperature and then he would turn everything off around mid-morning.

November the 8th the eighth grade students will be on a field trip to OSU Lima.

NHS inductions are going to be held on Friday, November 9th at 1:40.  This year 15 new members will be inducted into the Wayne Trace Chapter of the National Honor Society.

The fall drama will take place on November 16th and 17th in the Payne Auditorium.

The drama students have been hard at work for several weeks and I am sure this performance will be successful.

Monday the 12th of November we will hold our Veteran’s Day assembly.  Mrs. Parrett and Mr. Archinal have been very instrumental in organizing this event and I am sure once again it will be an outstanding day.

Tuesday November 13th Joel Penton will be here to speak with our student body.  He will speak with the high school at 9:00 and then the junior high at 10:00.  From everything I have heard this should be a very worth while assembly.

Also on the 13th our high school band will be performing at the OSBA conference.  Mr. Archinal will also be taking the junior high band members to observe this event.  I am sure their performance will be outstanding and they will represent our district well.

It is time for the annual Blood Drive.  Friday, November 30th from 9:00-2:00 the American Red Cross will be in the junior high gym.  Student Council members will be on hand to help the Red Cross with set up and registration during the day.

Mr. and Mrs. Jim Long graciously donated $1206 worth of Oak to the Wayne Trace Industrial Arts Class.  This wood was milled by a family member many years ago.  We would like to thank Mr. and Mrs. Long for this donation.  The students are showing their appreciation to the Longs by building a small piece of furniture from the wood.
