To: Mr. Gerber, Mr. Baumle, Mr. Hockenberry, Mrs. McClure, Mr. Sinn, Mr. Stoller, and Mr. Wannemacher From: Sarah Deatrick Date: November, 2008 Subject: Principal’s Report for November 1- On November 4th the Kids On The Block program came to give a presentation to our 3rd grade. The talk about and demonstrate sensitivity towards others with disabilities. They have been coming to the school now for several years. This is a good program, and the students always walk out talking about something they learned. 2- Laurie Delong, Michelle Berry, Jennifer Moran, Carol Swary and I met with the teachers of each grade level. This gave us an opportunity to discuss any concerns with students and develop interventions or set a plan. 3- A big Thank You to Miss Gordon, Miss Boterf, and Mrs. Moore for organizing and preparing for our Veterans’ Day program on the 11th. 4. The High School will again be using the auditorium to present their fall play. I am glad we are utilizing this great facility! 5. The three teachers, Linda Hissong, Michelle Berry and Joan Boterf, will again be meeting to discuss the next step to Differentiation. They will sit down with one of the presenters, and teachers from Grover Hill and the High School, to decide on some strategies of how to share the information they learned at the conferences. They have already introduced a differentiation technique at our last teachers’ meeting. 6. We will be having our In-Service at WTPE on November 24th. All of Wayne Trace staff will be coming over in addition to the Antwerp staff. From 8:30-12:30 we will be attending training about detecting, reporting, and watching for child abuse. They will also be discussing what the law requires us to do if we suspect abuse. Kathy Flaugh is giving everyone the option to purchase and eat lunch here at WTPE. Thank you Kathy!! After our morning session, our three teachers will begin the process of training the teachers on differentiation techniques. 7. We are well under way of filling the time slots for Parent/Teacher Conferences. Mrs. Ramsier will be out during that time, but she is scheduling conferences with her parents after school while she is here. 8. Because of the Krouse Chiropractic sponsorship, we will be having a Live Drive for Christmas for Kids. 98.1 will be here on December 2nd from 7am-9am. Rick Small will be broadcasting from the Elementary. We are concentrating on collecting canned foods and non-perishable items. These items are used for Paulding Co. residents. 9. Textbook Adoption – Teachers are finalizing their choices for a textbook series in Science. When the selection is complete, Sarah and I will meet with the company representative to negotiate a deal. We hope to have materials arrive shortly after the first of the year. 3. In-Service – The curriculum mapping delay day and the Tech Fair at Bluffton were two valuable professional development opportunities that our teachers took part in recently. On November 24 my staff will meet in the morning at WTPE for training in recognizing child abuse and sexual abuse. This training is required for all teachers this year. We are having our classified staff attend this training as well as it will be required for them next year. In the afternoon WTGH teachers will return to Grover Hill for an introductory session on differentiated instruction from our building trainers, Mrs. Davis and Mrs. Beining. 4. Veteran’s Day – Veteran’s Day was observed on November 11 at WTGH. Mrs. Davis, Ms. Scarbrough, Ms. Spinner, and Mrs. Walls put together another fine program that included students from all grades. Music was also provided by the sixth grade band. Gail Scarbrough was the special speaker for the event that was well attended by veterans and other members of the community. Many veterans stayed to eat lunch with our students. 5. Parent-Teacher Conferences – Teachers are preparing for Parent-Teacher Conferences on November 24th and 25th. Conferences will be held from 5:30 until 8:30 on the 24th and from 1:00 until 8:00 on the 25th. 6. The folks are supposed to be in this month to service and refurbish the pull out stage and I am also working with John Ladd to coordinate adding some tile around the northwest corner of the playground to assist with drainage in that area.
WTHS Principal’s Report Kevin E. Wilson November 17, 2008 Homeroom Time We have a good workable schedule for grades 7-10 for homeroom. During this 25 minute time period the students are working on OAT/OGT preparation with a qualified staff member teaching. I am actually working with the freshman for math. Grades 11 & 12 are not working on OGT so at this time we are looking into having the students complete Senior Projects. This has been done at Vantage and other schools in the area with great success. In the near future some of our staff will be going to other schools to observe and talk about implementing these projects. OGT We are finished with the Fall OGT retakes. The students worked very hard and took their time on these very important tests. During this testing period we took each of the students who receives accommodations and met with them one on one. I feel this effort will show when the results come back. NHS I will have a list of names of those who will be inducted into the NHS at the meeting Assembly Kenn Kington was a big hit with our student body. Kenn is a Christian Comedian. We were able to have Kenn present at Wayne Trace mainly due to the efforts of the Youth for Christ program. Kenn was the main event speaker for the YFC banquet and since he was going to be in the area they offered us a chance to hear him at a very low cost. Exams At this time I am working on an Exam schedule. I will be talking with the staff about different options. With having one week after Break it creates some difficulties with giving exams to students who have been on Break for two weeks. This is the main reason we are discussing other options. Scheduling Mr. Alt and I have started talks about next year’s schedule. I will keep you updated as we move into the process more. Radon Policy Kenny Speice and I attended a conference on radon testing. We were shown how to test our buildings in order to be in compliance with Jared’s Law. At this time we are working to create policy for Wayne Trace as a district.
