High School Principal’s Report
December 3, 2007
Kevin E. Wilson, Principal

Parent/Teacher Conferences were a success.  In speaking with several teachers I received mixed attendance reports.  Some indicated the number of conferences were down while others indicated an increase in parent attendance.  I have asked the teachers to send a report to me with the percent of conferences they had during the two days.  This report will be a great source of data as we plan for next year.

Progress Book seems to be a big hit with many of the parents who were at Parent/Teacher conferences.  The parents felt this was a great tool for them to monitor their child’s progress in all classes.

The in-service for the high school seemed to go well.  Mrs. Anne Gerber taught two sessions on “Word.”  This was very helpful for our staff as we changed to PCs.  Mrs. Kemler, Mr. Lentz, Mrs. Miller, and Mrs. Gudakunst presented a few of the many options offered by Progress Book.  At this time we are only asking the staff to place grades on the web but at the beginning of the 3rd nine weeks we will be including homework.  This feature will allow the parent to look on the web site to see what homework is to be completed for the evening.  It is our plan to implement Progress Book a piece at a time.  We have many staff members who are truly experts and it was nice to see them volunteer to teach others during our in-service.

Joel Penton spoke to our students on the 13th of November.  His topic was on “Making and Keeping Commitments.”  This program was well received by the student body.

December 3rd at 7:00pm will be the Jr. High Concert.  This is the same night as the Haviland Drainage Christmas Party.  The Christmas Party will be held in the cafeteria and the Concert will be in the Jr. High Gym.

Wednesday the 5th of December is the annual Senior Citizens Dinner.  Mrs. Wagonrod has worked hard to prepare for this day and I am sure it will be well received by the community.

December 17th is the High School Concert.  This concert will be held in the HS Gym starting at 7:00pm.

The Jr. High will be holding their annual Spelling Bee on December 20th and the Geography Bee on the 21st.  Both events will be held in the morning at 8:10am.

The Student Council is working on putting together the Christmas Program which will be performed the 21st starting at 12:40.  This program should last about an hour.

Report to the Wayne Trace Board of Education
Monday, December 3. 2007
Wayne Trace Grover Hill Elementary
Alan R. Lautzenheiser, Principal

1. Students of the Month – Ashley Burt, Alex Fast, Arlen Stoller, Saxon Fisher, Shane Stahl, David Sinn, Christopher Davis, Emilee Myers-Colgan, Daniel Sinn, Sara Sinn, Celia Baker, Prestyn Thomas, Haley Pastor, Nate Showalter, Amanda Wharry

2. Social Studies materials continue to arrive and are being implemented by the classroom teachers as they become available.

3. The elementary tech fair on November 19 was successful even after some last minute changes. Teachers from WTGH and WTPE met at WTHS because of computer problems at WTGH. The concept of peers teaching peers was used as teachers shared with their colleagues the ways that they are using and integrating technology in their classrooms. It is very impressive to see the way our teachers are using and sharing their skills for the benefit of our students.

4. The annual Christmas program at WTGH will be December 11 in the school gym. Performances will be at 1:30 and 7:00 p.m. The PTO will be holding their annual bake sale at both performances and a raffle for two specially prepared baskets will be drawn after the evening performance. The students have been working very hard preparing for the program. I would like to invite any board member who has the time to attend one of the two performances.

5. Our annual food drive is in full swing. Because of a significant increase in needy families and the relocation of the local minister who had pretty much taken care of the local food pantry there is a great need. We will collect donations of non-perishable items and paper products up until Christmas vacation.

6. Four students at WTGH have reached the 100 point mark in the Accelerated Reading program. Those students are: Mackenzie Haney; Andrew Ludwig; Bailey Poling; and Logan Fast.

7. As I was completing this report, I had a request from Mrs. Casey Schlatter. She will be starting her Master’s program next fall through BGSU. Her professor asked her to find out if there were enough people in her cohort from this area if they could use either WTGH or WTHS one night a week for their cohort to meet and what the cost might be. I would be interested in any input you might have on this subject.

Subject:  Principal’s Report for December

1- The PTO will be sponsoring a Family Film Night on November 30th.  This will be a fun activity for the families.  Thank you to the PTO for sponsoring this fun event!

2- We have started the TANF After School Program.  We have 33 students registered to participate.  Six teachers share the Monday through Thursday schedule with two per afternoon.  We will only be able to have the program for 17 weeks because of the huge cut in the grant, and since WT Payne did not get the 21st Century money this year we will not be able to extend it.  We may consider adding an additional teacher since there are so many students, but we are waiting until after Christmas to see if the attendance is maintained because if we do then the number of weeks we could run the program will have to be shortened.  This is a great opportunity for our students, but since it is a federal grant, we are only able to invite those students that meet certain criteria.

3- The WT Payne Christmas program will be at 9:30am and 1:30pm on Friday, December 14th in the auditorium.

4-  The 6th grade had a wonderful Thanksgiving Program.  Thank you to Mrs. Moore, Mrs. Mead, Mrs. Krouse and the 6th graders.

5-  We will be having our annual Benefit Basketball Game on the 21st at 9:30am.  We use the money donated to buy Payne SuperValu gift certificates for some of our families.  This is a fun activity for our students.  The 6th grade plays the staff.

6- As of  11/24 WT Payne has answered 138,056 Study Island questions.   This does not include those questions, worksheets and tests the teachers make and print off from Study Island.
