Superintendent’s Report
A.
May 15, 2008 will be a combined Professional Development day that
will include the spring waiver day in-service and final 2 hour
curriculum mapping professional development day. This adjusted schedule
is due to missing eight instructional days because of inclement
weather. Our district did not want to lose another instructional day in
April for in-service. Therefore, we combined the in-service day with
our final 2 hour curriculum mapping delay day. The morning of May 15
will be used to train the WTGH and WTPE elementary teachers in Progress
Book. The WTHS school teachers will participate in a Technology Fair.
During the afternoon professional development session, all K-12 district
teachers will be involved in the district’s curriculum mapping process.

Reminder of the annual BOE retreat, Thursday, February 28, for
the purpose of discussing short-term and long-term plans for the school

High School Principal’s Report
February 2008
Kevin E. Wilson, Principal
This month the music department will be
very active.
On February 13th and 14th
the choir will perform Singing Valentines. This is a great fund raiser
for the music department. Last year they raised around $600 without
having advertising so this year they expect to make more.
Then on Saturday the 16th
they will be competing in the Solo & Ensemble contest.
We also have two band students as well
as two choir students performing with the Honor Band & Choir in
Findlay. Sara Feasby and Ashley Saylor will perform with the Honors
Choir while Stacy Wenninger and Tara Ingle will perform with the Honors
Band.
Dale Laukhuf will be here after school
on the 26th for a clinic. Mr. Laukhuf is a retired band
instructor from Lima Schools as well as a Wayne Trace graduate.
Finally on the 28th from
8:00 to 11:30 Mr. Archinal has invited a professor from Akron in for a
clinic. This is the same professor who came last year to work with our
students.
On the 6th our 10th
grade students attended Vantage for a visit. Each student was allowed
to pick two programs to visit.
February 8th will be Career
Day. During this day the 9th grade will be attending a
career day at North West State in Archbold while the 10th
grade job shadow, the 11th grade can job shadow or do a
college visit, and then the seniors will be here at the high school for
a day of post high school topic preparing them for a smooth transition
from high school to their future.
This month our 8th grade
students will be taking the Schools That Work assessment. This is a
good source of data for our staff to use.
Scheduling is in full swing. Mr. Alt
has been meeting with each class discussing their required classes for
graduation along with the electives being offered.
On the 25th at 6:00pm Mr.
Alt and I will be meeting with students interested in Post Secondary
Options. During this meeting I will be reminding the parents of our
Duel Credit program.
March 3rd is the date in
which Mr. Alt and I will be meeting with the 2008-2009 freshmen to
discuss scheduling. At this time we will go over their graduation
requirements and working with the student and parent to look at a four
year educational plan.

Subject: Principal’s Report for
February
1- Blair Baumle
is the WT Payne Spelling Bee Champion. She will be competing at the
County Spelling Bee on February 11th. Cassidy Hilkey was our
runner-up.
2- Zach Gerber
and Kayla Flint were our second set of positive speakers this year.
They talked about not giving up. Our students enjoyed listening to them
and being able to ask them questions.
3- The teachers
had their next 2 Hour Curriculum Mapping meeting. They are working hard
to update their maps, but they also want to take it to the next level by
working on assessments to go along with their maps.
4- Brock Worden
has already reached over 400 AR points. Blair Baumle and Jake Arend
have already reached over 300 AR points. Congratulations to all of
them. Our students are working very hard to beat their AR points from
last year.
5- WT Payne
students have answered over 202,650 Study Island questions. Last week
they beat their goal by getting more than 76.2% correct. Study Island
percentage is similar to the OAT, and a 76% is a very good average.
6- Al, Ray, Bill
and I will be working on Jared’s Law together to complete the
appropriate forms.
7- Third Grade
will be having their Hobby Day on the 26th, 3A, and 27th,
3B. Students bring in their Hobby and discuss with the class and
visitors what they have. This is an excellent opportunity for students
to learn the beginning of public speaking and how to write a speech.

Regional Spelling Bee.
3. Sarah and Bill from Payne met today with Ray and
myself to go over our plans for this year’s inspection by the health
department in light of Jared’s Law. This meeting was to ensure that our
binders contained all required materials and that WTPE and WTGH were on
the same page with our preparations.
4. Richland and Bebout and Houg have been out to
look at our roofs and will be getting back with us with solutions to
some of our leaking problems. At this point, Ray and I feel that is some
locations on the roof the “weepers” in the masonry are located behind
the flashing. Richland seems to concur.
5. Preparations are under way for our four Saturday
Booster Sessions to prepare our students for the Ohio Achievement Tests.
6. The 21st Century After School Program
will be sponsoring a collection to try to raise funds for WTGH student,
Ashley Burt’s, chance to represent Wayne Trace and the United States at
the World BMX Championships this summer in China. Cans will be placed
in each classroom for student donations. Each student that donates will
be entered into drawings for Ft. Wayne Komets and Mad Ant tickets. In
addition the class raising the most money will receive a pizza party.
The WTGH PTO will match the money earned. |
