Superintendent’s Report

A.     Congratulations to the Wayne Trace and Antwerp Art Departments for conducting a very nice and successful art show on March 1.  Wayne Trace art teachers Mrs. Judi Snook and Mrs. Nancy Sweeney along with Antwerp art teacher Mrs. Lisa Girlie-Jordan organized the joint Art Show between the two school districts.  Many art exhibits were on display from Wayne Trace and Antwerp students.  This is positive example of how two neighboring school districts can work cooperatively to promote student achievement.  There were also some art exhibits that were on display from staff members.  We also appreciate the music presentation prepared by Mr. Mike Archinal.  We appreciate the cooperation we have from both school districts in organizing and conducting this event in order to showcase the talents of our students.

B.     A “BIG THANK YOU” to all the Wayne Trace bus drivers.  They are truly professionals and very skilled at their jobs.  It’s a blessing that our students are in such capable hands.  Our bus drivers treat their customers (students) like their own children.  Road and weather conditions this year have been unpredictable.  We get hazardous weather 10 minutes before school is dismissed and thick fog 15 minutes after school dismisses.  Our bus drivers adjust to these sudden changes and carry on with their jobs with the utmost skill and caution.

C.     Congratulations to the Wayne Trace Varsity Girls Basketball Team for advancing to the Division III District Championship.  It is the first time in the history of the school that the Wayne Trace Varsity Girls Basketball team played for a District title.  We commend coaches Gus Davis, Rich Miller, and Chris Rosswurm.  We also commend student-athletes Becky Ruble, Becky Hicks, Sara Priest, Elyse Myers, Renee Bidlack, Marla Sinn, Jenna Stoller, Chelsea Miller, Rylee Ulm, Kacee Hockenberry, Janelle Davis, and Jo Ellen Fickel.  Congratulations on the success they earned through the hard work and dedication they put into the girls’ basketball program.

D.     Congratulations to the Wayne Trace Varsity Boys Basketball Team for advancing to the Division IV Regional Championship games and winning the Sectional and District Championships along the way.  We commend coaches Al Welch, Jim Linder, and Craig Miller.  We also commend student-athletes Riley Linder, Ryan Davis, Dane Treece, Aaron Hockenberry, Alex LaBounty, Nate Jewell, Art Stoller, Justin Davis, Tevin Hale, Blake Foust, Jordan Sherry, Jason Gordon, Derek Baksa, and Caleb Davis.  Congratulations on the success they earned through the hard work and dedication they invested in the boys’ basketball program.

E.      Congratulations to senior wrestler Jake Reuille.  Jake was a two time district qualifier and GMC Champion.  Jake had 96 career wins.  We are proud of the wrestling program as well as Coach George Clemens, Coach Dennis Stabler, and Coach Dan Reuille for their hard work and dedication to the program;

 F.      The Wayne Trace Local School District Pandemic Influenza Response Plan has been developed.  A special “Thank You” is extended to the Pandemic Planning Committee.  Our Health Coordinator, Mrs. Wendy Baumle, chaired the planning committee and was responsible was the organization of the Pandemic Plan.  Mr. Wilson, Mr. Lautzenheiser, Miss Deatrick, Mrs. Noggle, and Mr. Bill Edwards from the Paulding County Health Department also served on the committee and helped in developing the Pandemic Plan.

G.     Wayne Trace received a Region 1 DUAL Credit Grant for our Dual Enrollment Program.  The amount of the grant is $3,340.96.  These monies will be used for the Renewal Training for our Dual Enrollment Teachers.  Monies can also be used to pay for student tuition and instructional materials associated with the Dual credit coursework.  Sandi Freeman, Paul Clark, and Carol Swary of the WBESC were instrumental in helping Wayne Trace obtain this grant for our Dual Enrollment Program.

H.     Resolution to authorize the Superintendent to request three waiver days for the upcoming school year (2008-2009) for the purpose of providing professional development for the Wayne Trace staff.

Guidance Office News

The past month Mr. Alt has been busy talking with the students about scheduling for next year.  At this time the office is collecting the student request and will be inputting this information into the computer.  The next month or two Mr. Alt, Mr. Speller, and I will be working on creating the master schedule.

 OGT Week

The high school students will be taking the OGT during the week of March 10th.  This test is given to each tenth grade student along with any junior or senior who has not passes one or more section.  During this week we will be on a two hour delay schedule with the bus schedule will running at its normal time.  Any student who has passes all sections of the OGT will not need to be in attendance until 9:50 when the two hour schedule kicks in.  Freshman will be taking the practice test and our junior high students will be working on OAT review.

Spring Break

We are on spring break the week of March 17th.  This week is also OGT make-up week so any student who was absent during the regular week will need to come in over spring break to finish testing.

Europe Trip

Thursday, March 13th twenty five Wayne Trace students and four staff members will be leaving for France.  These students will be in France over their spring break and will return home in the evening of Easter Sunday.  During this trip the students will visit many interesting places, several in which they have read or studied about.

Washington D.C. Trip

On Monday, April 14th many of our 8th grade students will depart for their trip to D.C.  As in years past the students will visit many historical places they have or will study about in class.

OAT Week

The 7th and 8th grade students will be taking the OAT’s during the week of April 21st.  We hope for improved scores this year with extra efforts of students and staff members.  As stated earlier we will be using the first two hours of the day during OGT week to review and assess where our student strengths and weaknesses are.

I will have the final report from the health department in a couple of weeks. At that time I will write the abatement report to inform them how the problems will be addressed.

4. The 21st Century After School Classes as part of their community and public service ran a fundraiser for WTGH student, Ashley Burt.
