Superintendent’s Report
A. Congratulations to the Wayne Trace Jr./Sr.
High School Performing Arts Association on their
presentation of Lil’ Abner on April 2-4. We
congratulate the cast and crew on the dedication
and time they put into this performance. We also
thank Dave Snyder, Sharon Spinner, and Laurie
Delong for their guidance and direction in Lil’
Abner.
B. Congratulations to the Wayne Trace FFA,
Miss Heiby, and all the Wayne Trace FFA officers
for the time and energy they put into their
annual FFA Spring Banquet. Many FFA students
were recognized for outstanding performances
during the 2008-2009 school year. We are proud
of our FFA program and all the positive results
that are displayed from our fine students.
C. I want to formally recognize and thank our
substitute staff at Wayne Trace. Throughout the
year our school district uses a lot of
substitute personnel in all three buildings. We
are also very fortunate to have dedicated
substitute teachers, bus drivers, cooks, and
custodians. Our substitutes are vital to the
success of this school district. I have noticed
over the years that our substitutes also care
deeply for the students they teach and the jobs
that they perform. They want our students to
succeed and they want to do their best to fill
in for a regular employee. We appreciate our
Wayne Trace substitutes and the positive
attitudes they bring to the school district.

Wayne Trace Grover Hill Elementary – Alan
Lautzenheiser, Principal
1. Students of the Month – Steven Torman; Marissa Huebner; Gina
Sinn; Emily Beech; Sydney Hofmann; Jon Sinn; Connor Baumle; Bailey
Maroney; Bryan Hofmann; Ayana Rowe; Claire Sinn; Krista Markley;
Lyrissa Hammons; Isaiah Rittenhouse; Katie Stoller
2. The OAT Prep Sessions are going well at Wayne Trace Grover
Hill Elementary. We have 57 students in grades 3 through 6 who have
signed up for the program. As an incentive on the OAT, students have
been informed that if every grade level scores 75% proficiency or
higher on the OAT or if they score high enough to earn an excellent
rating, I will rent the Van Wert movie theater for a movie day for
the students and buy their popcorn and pop.
3. Congratulations to the Wayne Trace Grover Hill Elementary
Battle of the Books team. They won the Paulding County Battle of the
Books competition for 2009. Members of the team include Blair Baumle,
Erin Jewell, Leah Sinn, Chuckie Chastain, Isiah Ross, and Lynn
Wells.
4. Mrs. Davis has spoken to me about the possibility of opening
the school to students once or twice a week to allow them to come in
and take AR quizzes over the books they are reading. She has
received requests for this from several parents. I am in favor of
this as anything that we can do to encourage our students to read is
a positive thing.
5. Mrs. Bauer and Mrs. Backus will present the educational impact
program at the board meeting. Mrs. Bauer and Mrs. Backus recently
applied successfully for a Martha Holden Jennings grant to purchase
equipment for their classrooms to improve instruction. They will be
sharing with you about this grant and how it will impact their
students.
6. Students at Wayne Trace Grover Hill will be taking the OAT
tests beginning April 27. Teachers continue to work hard as we head
into the home stretch of preparation time to make sure that their
students are ready to do their best on the test.

Wayne Trace Payne Elementary
Board Report for April, 2009
1- Congratulations to our Battle of the Books team. They placed
second at the County competition. They did very well! Our team
consisted of Estie Sinn, Courtney Mead, Stacey Flint, Alec Vest,
Austin Winebrenner, and Nathanael Roop.
2- We have 36 students signed up to participate in the Saturday
OAT classes. Our next two classes will be April 18th and
25th.
3- The PTO has planned Family Fun Night for April 17th
with bingo beginning at 6:30 p.m. This is always a huge event with a
great turn out. The students and their families have a lot of fun
throughout the evening.
4- WT Payne Elementary once again hosted the Play For Those Who
Can’t basketball marathon. This was held on Friday the 10th
and Saturday the 11th.
5- Teachers and students have been working hard as the countdown
draws closer for the OATs. Mrs. Mohr has been working with the
students on writing and scoring short and extended response
questions. Mrs. Stouffer has set up the classroom to reflect exactly
like the OAT will be by practicing taking the test. Her husband
volunteered to come in and read for those who will need to have it
read to them during the actual test. All of the 3-6 teachers have
been practicing taking the test, but she has taken it one step
further by setting up her classroom just as it will be that day.
6- Ohio Achievement Tests begin on Monday, April 27th.
7- WT Payne Elementary held our Kindergarten Registration on
Friday, April 3rd. At this time we have 31 students
registered for the 09-10 school year.

High School Principal’s Report
April 2009
Kevin E. Wilson, Principal
Guidance Office News
Scheduling is almost complete at this time. Mr. Alt is in the
process of meeting with students and fine tuning their
schedules. We will again run a nine period day. With the staff
we have it would have been difficult to go to an eight period
day. The schedule for next year will have again the 25 minute
homeroom (Raider) time and be used just as it was this year.
OAT week
The 7th and 8th grade students will be
taking the Ohio Achievement Test the week of April 20th.
The teachers have been working on review during the homeroom
time in this year’s schedule. I am excited about the way this
time has been used and feel it should be reflected on our test
scores. Again this year we will be working one on one for the
special education students.
This year we are also holding two Saturday review sessions.
The first session was on Saturday, April 4th. During
this time we had seven students come for review sessions.
The junior high schedule for the week will be as follows:
Monday (7 & 8 Reading), Tuesday (7 & 8 Math), Wednesday (no
test), Thursday (7 Writing & 8 Science), and Friday (8 Social
Studies).
Washington D.C. Trip
On Monday, April 27th many of our 8th
grade students will depart for their trip to D.C. As in years
past the students will visit many historical places they have or
will study about in class.
The students not attending this trip will have a week full of
educational activities. Mr. Langhals is working on a schedule
for this week. I do know that he is attempting to contact the
parks in both Payne and Grover Hill. Mr. Langhals wants to set
up a time for the students to help clean the parks.
Assembly
Tuesday, April 14th we have an assembly here at
the high school. Matt Schroeder will be here to speak with the
student body. Matt’s theme is "The rest is up to you." He comes
from Columbus Grove. As a high school student he was in an
accident that was to have left him paralyzed for life. He was
determined to walk again and will share the struggles and
determination he had during his recovery. This should be a good
day for the students.
Mock Crash
We will be hosting a "Mock Crash" on Thursday, April 23rd.
A mock crash is where the emergency teams in the area will come
to WT and set up a mock accident. Weather permitting we will
also have a visit from Life Flight. We will have a student
narrate everything taking place. The students will get to see
and hear what actually takes place at an accident scene. Three
students will be participants and play the rolls of the accident
victims. One of the students will be taken away by ambulance,
one will appear to be taken away by Life Flight, and the other
will be taken away by the county coroner. With Prom in early May
I felt this would be a good time for students to begin thinking
about the possible outcomes to their decisions.
