Superintendent’s Report

A.     NEOLA has sent the final draft of the Wayne Trace Local Board Policies and Administrative Guidelines.  The Bylaws and Policies are now on the Internet.  They can be accessed at the following web site address which is www.neola.com/waynetrace-oh

B.     Congratulations to Wayne Trace Payne Elementary student Blair Baumle.  Blair placed in the top 10 at the regional spelling bee in Fort Wayne, Indiana.  The Journal Gazette sponsored the regional spelling bee.  Seventeen district spelling bee champions competed in the regional spelling bee representing over 11,000 students in the area.  It was the first time in 11 years a student from Wayne Trace Payne Elementary qualified to participate in the Journal Gazette Regional Spelling Bee.

C.     Congratulations to Zach Moore a 7th grader at WTJH.  Zach qualified for the State Geography Bee Competition.  Zach is the son of William and Shandonn Moore.  In order to qualify Zach not only had to win the School Geography Bee but also qualified with the high score on a multiple choice test.  The multiple choice test is graded and the top scores throughout the state then move on to the state competition.  The state competition was held at the Ohio State University on April 4.  One winner from each state and territory will advance to the national competition in Washington DC.  The final of the competition will be hosted by Alex Trebeck.  We are a very proud of Zach’s accomplishment.

D.     Congratulations to Aaron Hockenberry for scoring over 1,000 points during his high school basketball career.  Aaron’s final tally was 1,055 points.  This is a milestone accomplishment for any athlete.  We appreciate his hard work and dedication.  Again, many congratulations!

E.      Thank you to all the teachers’ at all three campuses for the hard work, effort, and knowledge they put forth during the two hour curriculum mapping delays.  Many positive strides took place this year.  Each instructional group made progress in terms of editing and aligning existing maps.  This professional development time allows our teachers to network in order to align the curriculum across the district.  The structured procedure we currently have in place assures that all major components of effective curriculum mapping are accounted for in our most recent maps.

Subject:  Principal’s Report for April

1-  Kindergarten Registration is set for Monday, April 14th

2-  Congratulations to our Battle of the Books team:  Brock Worden, Maddie Baumle, Matt Klopfenstein, Hank Sinn, Blair Baumle and Jake Arend.  All three of our teams did a great job in the WTPE competition, but this team will go on to complete at the County Battle of the Books on the 15th.

3-  The high school play will be at the WTPE auditorium on the 18th and 19th.  We have several WTPE students participating in the play this year.  It is wonderful that we have such a nice facility in the school district and everyone has an opportunity to use it.

4- As of 4/05 WTPE students have answered 313,892 Study Island questions.  Each week they are increasing their percentage correct.

5- Brock Worden has surpassed the WTPE record of 608 AR points.  He is now close to 700 points, and he is working to hit 800 by the end of the year.  We have 6 people who have over 400 AR points so far!!  Every first grader has AR points, and they each made their goal!!  All of our classes have done fantastic!  All of 6B and 5B students met their AR goal last nine weeks!!

6- We have 43 students signed up for the Saturday OAT Booster classes.

7- Both of the scoreboards from the junior high are up and running.  Bill was able to get the one fixed before the Benefit Basketball Marathon.

Report to the Wayne Trace Board of Education

Monday, April 14, 2008

Wayne Trace Grover Hill Elementary – Alan R. Lautzenheiser, Principal

1. Students of the Month – Eric Hicks; Taylor Akom; Madison Poling; Mackenzie Haney; Danielle Kortokrax; Isaac Ludwig; Brittany Foust; Sydney Critten; Brooke Ludwig; Sean Stuckey; Taylor Carnahan; Kylee Varner; Sara Edwards; Noah Kline

2. OAT Booster Classes – I am very excited to report that we have 60 students in grades 3-6 that have signed up and are participating in the Saturday Oat Booster classes. The first week’s sessions went well.

3. Waiver – I have been notified by the ODE that they have received our request for a waiver to exceed the 1% cap for students being alternately assessed on the OAT. This year our request was for 2.9%. We will not be notified until late April or May if this request will be approved. This makes it difficult as we needed to send the Alternate Assessment test in to be scored in early March.

4. Differentiation of Instruction – Mrs. Beining and Mrs. Davis will be attending a three sessions of training in April and May at the Niswonger Performing Arts Center Lecture Hall on differentiation of instruction. These sessions are intended to train them so they can return to WTGH and train the rest of the staff. In addition, these two teachers will be accompanying me to a conference in Columbus on differentiation of instruction in July. Subs are covered by the WBESC.

5. Progress Book – The next two staff meetings at WTGH will be utilized to begin training the elementary staff in the use of Progress Book. Ms. Sinn and Mrs. Davis have piloted the program at WTGH this year and will be doing the training. The training will be completed at the May in-service.

6. Kindergarten Registration – Kindergarten registration will take place at WTGH on Monday, April 21.

7. Ohio Achievement Test – OAT’s will be administered the week of April 28 to students in grades 3-6.

8. Summer Institute – I have been selected and will be attending a session of the Ashbrook Teacher Institute at the John M. Ashbrook Center for Public Affairs at Ashland University the week of June 22

High School Principal’s Report

April 2008

Kevin E. Wilson, Principal

Guidance Office News

At this time Mr. Alt and I are ready to run a test to next years schedule.  There will never be a time in which it will be perfect and fit every student’s wants but after a spot check we think it is ready to go.

Next year we have in place a 25 min block of time for OGT/OAT review or advisor/advisee.

OAT week

The 7th and 8th grade students will be taking the Ohio Achievement Test the week of April 28th.  The teachers have already been using Study Island, Buckle Down materials, and old test questions from past test to prepare the students for this week.

Europe Trip

Mrs. Parrett and a few of the students who went to Europe will be at the meeting to give you an update.

Washington D.C. Trip

On Monday, April 14th many of our 8th grade students will depart for their trip to D.C.  As in years past the students will visit many historical places they have or will study about in class.

The students not attending this trip will have a week full of educational activities.  One day they will be going to the Lincoln Museum in Fort Wayne.  Another day they will be spending at the Wilderness Cabin working on teamwork and leadership activities.  Then throughout the week they will be building a cardboard boat which will then be tested at the Van Wert “Y” on Friday.  I have also built into their schedule time for OAT review.

Band to Orlando

I have included a schedule of activities the band will be doing while in Florida.  Mr. Archinal has worked very hard to get all the money in on time and organize his first major trip.  I would like compliment Mr. Archinal on all the time and effort he has put into organizing this trip.

High School Large Group State Competition

May 2nd and 3rd our Band and Choir will be competing in their State Competitions.  With the weather causing a cancellation of the District they automatically qualify for state.  To help the students prepare for this Mr. Archinal has built into the Florida trip at least two practice sessions.  He also has contacted several experts who will be coming in on April 28th to give band and choir clinics.  This should help our students be prepared to do their best on the 2nd or 3rd
