Report of the Treasurer
Consent Agenda Items:
05-01-09
On a motion by Les
Hockenberry one resolution passed by the Board to approve the
following consent agenda items:
to approve the minutes of the April 13, 2009 Board Meeting;
to approve the investment report and payment of bills as presented
by the treasurer;
to approve Fahey Banking Co of Marion and Peoples Bank of Marietta
as approved depositories up to the FDIC limits;
to set Monday, May 18, 2009 at 6:30 a.m. as the date, time and place
for the spring finance committee meeting;
upon the recommendation of the Superintendent and Treasurer that the
Board approve wages, in lieu of compensation under Ohio's workers'
compensation program, for Alice Wenninger for an additional period
of 90 calendar days or the duration of her disability, whichever is
shorter; the reason for this recommendation is that wage maintenance
for this employee during this period is more cost-effective to the
District than would be her receipt of total temporary benefits;
ADD:
to accept the donation from the Performing Arts Association in the
amount of $4,310.00 towards the purchase of new Band & Choir risers.
“Before we pass the consent
resolution, are there any items you would like to move from the
consent agenda to the discussion agenda for further discussion
and/or for separate voting purposes?”

Report of the Building Principals
The Educational
Impact report was given by Miss Deatrick regarding OAT Benchmark
Testing. Study Island offers Benchmark Tests to go along with the
practice questions. Students are able to take the Benchmark Tests
four times throughout the year. This gives the teachers an
opportunity to see where the students are in their understanding of
each standard. The students take one at the beginning of the year,
which is a good pretest to start the year. All of the benchmark
tests are scheduled during specific times so that the students take
them at the same time. This program is one more way for teachers to
collect data to see what needs covered, what needs re-taught, what
has been mastered.

Committee Reports
Ms. McClure met with Treasurer regarding
audit questions and fundraising.
Superintendent’s Report
A.
The 2009-2010 University of Findlay-School
Articulation Dual Enrollment Program has been very positive for the
Wayne Trace Local School District. Wayne Trace currently has 18
students enrolled in 39 college classes. Mrs. Annette Sinn’s
Physics 250 class has 8 students enrolled. Mr. Jack Baumle’s
Calculus 141 class has 10 students enrolled. Miss Marilyn Fisher’s
Psychology 113 class has 15 students enrolled. Mrs. Olofsson’s
Spanish IV class has 6 students enrolled. This program has been
very beneficial the last three years. Wayne Trace students receive
college credit during the regular school day without leaving the
halls of Wayne Trace. They jump-start their college education at a
fraction of the cost of attending college. They do not miss out on
the high school experience. Students do not have travel expenses.
This program has proven to be very positive for the Wayne Trace
School District.

Report to the Wayne Trace Board of
Education
Monday, May 11, 2009
Wayne Trace Grover Hill Elementary –
Alan R. Lautzenheiser, Principal
1. Ohio
Achievement Tests were given to students in grades 3-6 the week of
April 27. For the second year in a row, WTGH had 100% attendance in
those grades so no make-ups were necessary.
2. I wish to
extend my appreciation to our support staff and volunteers who gave
of their time to assist our students with IEP’s or 504 Plans with
their accommodations for the Ohio Achievement Test.
3.
Olympic/Carnival Day will be held at WTGH on May 19. The PTO along
with many volunteers always have a great day planned for our
students.
4.
Kindergarten Recognition will take place on May 21.
5. Our annual
Awards Assembly will take place on May 26. Awards for grades 1-3
will take place at 9:00 a.m. Awards for grades 4-6 will be presented
at 12:45.
6. Tomorrow,
May 12, will be our final Curriculum Mapping work day of the year.
The release time for mapping and the collaborative way of working on
our curriculum maps and units has been very valuable this year.
7. The 21st
Century After-School program attended a Ft. Wayne TinCap’s game on
May 9. The classes participated this year in the Ft. Wayne TinCaps
Reading Program. The students were able to earn free tickets to the
game through their accomplishments in the program. The 21st
Century Summer Program will take place in June. Participating
students will receive instruction in reading and math at WTGH in the
morning. They will then be transported to the Van Wert YWCA for
lunch. Afternoon activities will take place at Camp Clay.

Subject: Principal’s Report for May
1- Congratulations to Hank Sinn! Hank has
earned 1,000 AR points! He has passed our record of 863 points set
by Brock Worden.
2- Our OATs went wonderfully. All of the
teachers and readers bragged about how hard our students worked and
how seriously they took it. They did such a fabulous job; we made
all of the 3rd, 4th, 5th and 6th
graders our Students of the Week.
3- Congratulations to Mrs. Michelle Berry and
Mrs. Jennifer Moran for all of their organization of the OATs. They
organized the volunteer readers and students to make it the best
environment possible.
4- Our 1st grade teachers, Mrs.
Linda Hissong and Mrs. Teresa Pfeiffer, have already implemented
their Unit Design in their classrooms. It went very well. This
Unit Design helped the teachers incorporate some differentiated
activities, and it also helped them organize and plan what they were
teaching.
5- The teachers will be meeting for one more
Curriculum Mapping Delay. They will be working on updating and
editing their curriculum maps.
6- Our 5th graders will be
presenting a Spring Program on the 15th of May.
High School Principal’s Report
May 2009
Kevin E. Wilson, Principal
OAT week
This year for the OAT we were able
to find 22 people to read individually to the IEP students. This
should help our results. Our results will be back in mid-summer.
All we can do at this time is hope for the best.
Graduation
Mr. Alt stated that he has
forwarded a list of students for your approval. If you could
approve this list with the understanding that a student is only
approved upon completing the graduation requirements I would
appreciate it.
Ohio High School Athletic
Association
We need a resolution to become
members of the OHSAA for the school year 2009 – 2010. This is done
each year during either the May or June meetings.
Relay for Life
This May 1st we held our
relay for life. I am unsure to the total at this time. Each year
we set our goal for $5000. At the last time I checked we were short
of this goal. When the final numbers come in I will forward them to
you.
Exams
Exams are set for Friday, May 22nd
and again Tuesday, May 26th and Wednesday, May 27th.
Graduation rehearsal will be on Wednesday, May 20th at
1:30. This year the seniors are completing a Senior Project in
place of the exams. This project consists of an eight to ten page
paper along with an oral presentation. This should be a great
educational experience for the seniors.
Power of I program
Last week Mrs. Kim Miller, Miss.
Joni Klopfenstein, and I attended a one day conference on the Power
of I. This conference was very educational. At the junior high
level this year we implemented an extra help program. The
information from this conference will be used to find tune the
program we have in place. I will keep you posted on any changes
made. This year was a success for a majority of students. We did
not reach all the students nor did we receive assistance from all
parents. This is one reason we attended the conference, we felt we
needed to see what other options are out there for us. |
