WTHS Principal’s Report

Kevin E. Wilson

Graduation

Graduation day went well.  Kenny S. and I have started discussing possible solutions for next year with the air and sound system working against each other.  Since next years graduation date is May 25th we are concerned that it might be hotter and we want to have a plan in place ahead of time.

 Schedule

Mr. Alt has completed next years schedule and everything looks good.  We do have a few students that we are waiting on some information before we can complete their schedule but other than these few we are ready for next year.

 Summer Testing

At this time I am putting together a letter to send to the students who have not passed one or more sections of the OGT.  It is my hope that many of these students will take advantage of this extra opportunity.  The review session will be the week of July 9th with the testing the following week.  At this time I do not have any staff member interested in helping with the week of review.  If no one comes forward then I will do the review sessions on my own.

 Hiring

At this time Karla T. and I are involved in a second round of interviews for the Intervention Specialist position which opened when Coleen Smith took a position with another school.  It is my goal to have someone for you to hire during the June board meeting.  This is the only opening we have at this time and I do not anticipate any others.

 Summer Maintenance

Kenny & Mary are off to a good start on cleaning the building.  This year a few changes in classroom locations were made so they are in the process of moving those rooms as they clean.  Next week they will be spending time in the cafeteria next to get ready for the Blue Creek Alumni held on June 16th.

 International Trip

Attached you will find information for an International Trip put together by Mrs. Parrett.  She has experience taking students on this type of trip and after discussing this trip with her I know the knowledge our students will gain from seeing history first hand is priceless.  I would suggestion the trip take place over spring break of next year.  Any student taking advantage of this trip would miss three school days but I don’t see this being a problem.

 OGT Results

Attached you will find the 10th grade OGT results.  I believe you will find the results pleasing.  The staff and students worked very hard and I feel the results are evident to this hard work.  Everybody’s hard work along with curriculum mapping completed by the staff is another big reason we are seeing improvement.  I want you to notice the percent of students who are Accelerated or Advanced in each subject areas.  We have at least 40% of our student who scored in these two categories for Math, Reading, Writing, and Social Studies with Science at a 39.4%.  We still have some work to do but we are seeing the hard work and time showing us some improvement.

Report to the Wayne Trace Board of Education

Wayne Trace Grover Hill Elementary – Alan Lautzenheiser, Principal

 1. The 2006-07 school year closed out in fine fashion with a successful Olympic/Carnival day, Kindergarten Recognition, Awards Ceremony, and Toledo Symphony Orchestra Concert. I would like to thank all of the community members and volunteers as well as the PTO and staff members who pitched in to make all of these events a success.

 2. I have applied for a Cooper Foods grant to attempt to secure funding to maintain at least a portion of our math intervention program. I should find out about this later this summer. We have also applied for a grant to enable us to continue the 21st Century After-School program that has been very successful.

 3. I have utilized remaining 21st Century funding from this year to extend our contract with Study Island for WTGH and WTPE through the 2010 school year. I have also purchased the Benchmark Testing modules for both schools for next year.

 4. I have received a letter of resignation from Stephanie Brady, media specialist. Stephanie is returning to school to improve her opportunities for a classroom teacher position. Ms. Brady has been a great asset to our building and district and will be missed. I have certainly appreciated her assistance in her time here at WTGH.

 5. Alexander & Bebout have begun their excavation around WTGH to determine the cause of our settling situation. In their first dig they really didn’t find what they had expected. As of this report we are awaiting a visit from an architectural engineer/soil specialist for his examination.

 6. We have received the final regular school year report from Study Island. Wayne Trace Grover Hill Elementary students answered a total of 326,493 questions this past school year with 67.3% accuracy. These figures do not include Study Island questions and materials printed off by classroom teachers as part of their regular curriculum.

 7. If the state is operating on their projected time table, we should be receiving results from the Ohio Achievement Test in the next couple of weeks.

 8. I have attached a copy of the book fees for the 2007-08 school year for your inspection and approval.

 9. Summer cleaning is underway and progressing on schedule.

To:  Mr. Gerber, Mr. Baumle, Mr. Hockenberry, Mrs. McClure, Mr. Sinn, Mr. Stoller, and

Mr. Wannemacher

 From:  Sarah Deatrick

 Date: June, 2007

Subject:  Principal’s Report for June

1-WT Payne Elementary ended the school year with 277,014 Study Island questions for grades 3-6.

2- The final WT Payne Elementary Hackers Open will be held June 16th at the Pleasant Valley Golf Course.  I would like to thank Bob Mutschelknaus for all his help organizing the event.  This has been a successful event over the last 11 years as a fund raiser for our field trips.

3- We have made some changes for next year.  Mrs. Jennifer Mohr and Mr. Kevin Snyder will be teaching 4th grade and Mrs. Krouse, Mrs. Mead, and Miss Schaefer will be teaching 5th and 6th grade.  We will have four sections, and we will utilize Study Island for one period a day instead of making time within each class period.

4- I would like to thank the WT Payne PTO for organizing the Carnival for our students.  I would also like to thank all of the volunteers that helped make it a success!  Thank you!

5- We had our kindergarten recognition for KA and KB on May 23rd and 24th.  It was a wonderful program. The kindergarteners did a great job for their first public speaking appearance.  Thank you to Mrs. Snyder, Mrs. Flynn and Mrs. Moore for all of their work to organize the program.
