Board Minutes

The Wayne Trace Local School District Board of Education met in regular session on Monday, August 21, 2006 at 7:30 p.m. in the Lecture Room at Wayne Trace Jr/Sr High School.

Mr. Kelly Davis addressed the Board regarding dissatisfaction with the summer ACME baseball program.  He was frustrated that they only played 8 games all summer.

Susan Simpson-Candidate for Paulding County Auditor addressed the Board on her qualifications for the County Auditor position.

Mr. Gerber introduced several of the new staff members who were in attendance at the meeting.

On a motion by Pat Baumle one resolution passed by the Board to approve the following consent agenda items:

A.     to approve the minutes of the July 10 and August 7, 2006 Board Meetings;

B.     to approve the investment report and payment of bills as presented by the treasurer;

C.     to approve advances to grant funds to prevent negative fund balances for FY2007:

            Purchased 2 old homes from city of Van Wert to renovate as part of class.

            See copies attached.

            Mr. Lautzenheiser presented the Education Impact action for the month.  Notebooks prepared for each teacher which puts all resources for reviewing testing history, curriculum maps, and pointed direction as to actual questions and answers on standardized tests were shown to the Board.

        Superintendent’s Report

A.     Resolution to officially add the name “Wayne Trace” in front of Grover Hill Elementary and Payne Elementary.  Grover Hill Elementary will be officially recognized as Wayne Trace Grover Hill Elementary School and Payne Elementary will officially be recognized as Wayne Trace Payne Elementary School

B.     Commend Tim Baker and Karen Neff on a job well done in preparing our bus fleet for state inspection.  Tim and Karen were very dedicated and devoted to this process.  Students are our #1 priority.  It is reassuring to know that Wayne Trace students will be transported to school in safe, clean buses.

C.     To recognize and accept the “Blueprint of Student Success on the Ohio Achievement Test.”  A copy is attached to this Board Report.

D.     To commend the Central Office of Ann Olwin, Rob Wannemacher, Annette Baumle, Kathy Flaugh, and JoEllen Sisson for helping me transition into the Superintendency.  Their help and assistance is recognized and very much appreciated.

E.      To commend the Wayne Trace Maintenance/Custodial staff of Jerry Crone, Kenny Speice, Mary Comer, Bill Childs, and Ray Speice for their outstanding work and effort relative to cleaning and preparing our three buildings for opening day.  They take a lot of pride in their jobs and in their buildings.  Our student helpers, which include, Teresa Young, Rodney Miller, Tyler Dunham, and Levi Kurtz are also commended for their assistance in cleaning our building throughout the summer months.

F.      To commend the three building principals for the extra hours they have put into their buildings for preparing their students and staff for opening day.

G.     To commend all the Wayne Trace teachers for coming into their buildings throughout the months of July and August getting their classrooms and lesson plans ready for student arrival on August 23.

H.     To commend the students and staff of Wayne Trace Payne Elementary, Wayne Trace Grover Hill Elementary, and Wayne Trace Jr. Sr. High School for improving Ohio Achievement Test scores.  This is reflective on the ODE District Report Card.  Wayne Trace Payne Elementary received an “Excellent” building rating.  Wayne Trace Grover Hill Elementary received an “Effective” building rating, and Wayne Trace Jr. Sr. High School received an “Effective” building rating.  This is an improvement over the “Continuous Improvement” rating received the previous year.

I.        To review the Academic Needs Assessment and Athletic Needs Assessment.

J.       Distribute Wayne Trace Athletic Boosters Mission Statement and By-Laws.  Preview information until the next Board meeting.  Approve and sign at the September Board of Education meeting. 

Board feels this is a Boosters internal matter and not for the Board.

K.    Distribute copies of the Extra Curricular Application Form.

L.      Distribute and review information relative to the 2005-2006 District Report Card.  Individual Building Report Cards will be distributed and reviewed from Wayne Trace Payne Elementary, Wayne Trace Grover Hill Elementary, and Wayne Trace Jr. Sr. High School.

Consent Agenda Items:

On a motion by Les Hockenberry one resolution passed by the Board to approve the following consent agenda items:

A.      to approve all Lab Fees and Workbook Fees submitted by the building principals for Wayne Trace Payne Elementary School, Wayne Trace Grover Hill Elementary School, and Wayne Trace Jr. Sr. High School.

B.      to approve the substitute list compiled and submitted by the Western Buckeye Educational Service Center.

C.      to approve the Wayne Trace Student Code of Conduct that will be posted in all three buildings and all three Student/Parent Handbooks.

D.      to approve Lock-In and Lock-Out Emergency Management Procedures for Wayne Trace Payne Elementary, Wayne Trace Grover Hill Elementary, and Wayne Trace Jr. Sr. High School.

E.       to approve the state resident tuition rate for Wayne Trace as established by Ohio Revised Code at $3,385.98 for the 2006-2007 school year and to establish the out-of-state tuition rate for Wayne Trace for this school year at $6,724.39.

Upon recommendation of the Superintendent and 7-12 High School Principal a motion by Pat Baumle to offer Tom Schaper a one year limited supplemental contract as Varsity Baseball Coach for the 2006/2007 school year.
