A.
Congratulations to the Wayne
Trace staff and students for achieving AYP on the ODE District Report
Card. Adequate Yearly Progress or AYP is a very important piece of the
ODE District Report Card because it indicates that all Wayne Trace
students are making adequate yearly progress. Wayne Trace students met
the Growth Standard which indicates Wayne Trace students are on the path
to proficiency using ODE’s growth model projections. This is a huge
accomplishment for our school district. We are certainly proud of our
teachers and students for achieving this goal.
B.
Our Dual Enrollment Program
through the University of Findlay is booming again this year. We have
25 students enrolled in Psychology 113, 10 students enrolled in Physics
250, 9 students enrolled in Spanish 220, and 13 students enrolled in
Calculus 141. Wayne Trace students have an opportunity to earn 17
college semester hours before they take their first step onto a college
campus. Our school district is so very fortunate to have this program.
C.
Congratulations to Wayne Trace
student Chelsea Williamson. Chelsea has been selected as a national
proficiency finalist in the area of fruit production. She will be

JH Guidance
After the first few days of the school year it was
easy to see that hiring Ms. Fisher for JH Guidance was a very good
move. Mr. Alt now has time and is working with students who are at risk
in the high school and Ms. Fisher is meeting with those students in the
junior high who need help. Thanks to the Board of Education for
allowing this change to take place.
Power of I
The “Power of I” program is beginning on September
2nd. At this time we are only doing the Power of I with the
JH students. I did not feel that jumping right into it at the beginning
of the year was the best way to start. I am please with the response I
have received from the parents about this program. This program will
help students complete their homework which in return will keep the
learning process moving forward.
Car Show (Student Council)
On September 28th the Student Council
will be holding a car show here at Wayne Trace from 2:00 – 5:00. The
student council members do understand this is a Sunday and have taken
every precaution to make sure it does not interfere with Church or
family time. Mrs. Sinn and I have spoken and this day was the only good
day to hold this event.
On another note the Student Council approached me
about being able to hold a Wednesday night volleyball night for
homecoming week. I explained that this would not be possible but after
further discussion I would bring it to the board’s attention. During
homecoming week there are many activities taking place. The student
council would like to hold a volleyball tournament on Wednesday, October
1st. This tournament would be an activity in which the boys
from each grade level would participate. The only night this could be
done due to practices is on Wednesday.
Upcoming Events
School pictures will be on Wednesday, September 24th.
Homecoming week activities begin September 29th.
Quiz Bowl
Mr. Baumle has come to me with an outstanding
opportunity. Channel 44 hosts a Quiz Bowl tournament and would like for
our students to participate. The one catch is that the tournament is
held on Wednesday, October 1st at 6:15. Mr. Baumle and I
would like to know if the board would grant this one time event.

the Wayne Trace Board of Education
Monday, September 8, 2008
Wayne Trace Grover Hill Elementary
Alan Lautzenheiser, Principal
1. The opening of the school year has gone well.
The students have moved into school mode quickly and things have been
going smoothly in the classrooms.
2. Teachers at WTGH are completing their assessment
of the science series. We hope to be ready to begin negotiations with a
company for adoption and purchase by late September or early October.
3. All students at WTGH have been administered that
Aimsweb Diagnostic Battery. This gives a baseline from which to develop
targeted intervention for individual students. Aimsweb is given multiple
times during the school year to identify specific areas that individual
students may be struggling and to measure growth and the effectiveness
of the intervention.
4. I will be attending the Fall ODE Meeting at Lima
this week. This meeting deals with OAT issues. I will also be attending
in-service programs at the VWPAC along with two teachers from WTGH this
month. These in-service opportunities are on Differentiated Instruction.
5. Enrollment by grade at WTGH is: PreK - 20;
Kindergarten - 27; Grade 1 – 29; Grade 2 – 25; Grade 3 – 46; Grade 4 –
22; Grade 5 – 33; Grade 6 – 37.
6. The PTO has plans in place for the landscaping
at the front of the original building where the trees have been removed.
This will be done yet this fall. I really want to thank the PTO ladies
who have worked so hard on this project. They also came in before school
and repainted the four square and kick ball diamond areas on the
playground.
To: Mr. Gerber, Mr. Baumle, Mr. Hockenberry, Mrs.
McClure, Mr. Sinn, Mr. Stoller, and Mr. Wannemacher
From: Sarah Deatrick
Date: September, 2008
Subject: Principal’s Report for September
1- School has gotten off to a great start. The
transition of starting the year has gone very smoothly.
2- The pick up process at the end of the day has
also gone very smoothly. We have everyone in and out in less than 4
minutes.
3- Our enrollment breakdown:
PreK= 19, Kindergarten 36; 1st-
42; 2nd- 51; 3rd- 31;
4th- 39; 5th- 46, 6th- 42,
Total= 287 (K-6) and 306 (with PreK)
4- We have three teachers signed up to continue the
Differentiated Training in September and October. Joan Boterf, Linda
Hissong, and Michelle Berry will be attending the two days of training.
They will then come back and work with our teachers at teachers’
meetings to give the information they have learned.
5- Our first round of AimsWeb assessments is
complete. Mrs. Berry prepared papers for each student in grades 1-3 to
take home. What we did not do in the first round, was explain how to
read the information as it affects that child. Mrs. Berry drafted a
letter the next day for the students to take home and better explain the
graph. The teachers will also be using that information at
Parent/Teacher Conferences.
6- We are very glad to have Mrs. Stouffer (5th)
and Mrs. Janie Flynn (preschool) with us this year. They are doing
fantastic and fitting in well.
7- We have again scheduled Grandparents’ Days in
September. We have spread out the days so that we have enough room in
the cafeteria to accommodate all of our guests.
