Miss Deatrick reads "Cat in the Hat" to Wayne Trace Payne Elementary on March 2, 2007 at 2:36 PM

Our first quarter is already half over! The school year is well under way! We started off the year with an awesome celebration for our Ohio Achievement Test scores. We had an extra long recess and home made ice cream! The students and teachers had a great day. It is always nice to celebrate the accomplishments of our students and teachers. They work so hard through out the year, and they are very proud to show their parents and the community what they are able to do.

The following are the WTPE official scores for the 2009 Ohio Achievement Tests: 3rd grade- Reading- 72.4%, Math- 82.8; 4th grade- Reading- 94.9%, Math- 87.2%, Writing- 79.5%; 5th grade- Reading- 76.2%; Math- 71.4%; Science- 85.7%; Social Studies- 78.6%; 6th grade- Reading- 82.5%, Math- 82.5%.

Bravo to our students and staff!!

Our 3rd grade will take the Reading portion of the Ohio Achievement Assessment on the 6th. The Ohio Department of Education has officially changed the name from the Ohio Achievement Test to the Ohio Achievement Assessment. The 3rd grade is the only grade that has a test in the fall. This is an opportunity for us to see where our 3rd graders are in comparison to the standards and benchmarks. They will have the opportunity in April to take the 3rd grade Reading test again. They also have suspended the 4th grade Writing test and 5th grade Social Studies test for the next two years. Our spring OAAs will be given at the end of April.

We have several activities planned throughout October. The PTO will meet on October 8th at 7pm in the Art Room. They will be discussing and planning for the upcoming Family Film Night which will be held on Oct. 23rd. They will be sending home the details with the students. The PTO meetings are over by at least 8pm. Please consider joining us.

Market Day is our fundraiser for field trips. Each month a different grade level is in charge of the pick up day. They will be asking parents to help at this time. Market Day has been a success for WTPE! Be sure to look at the flyer for the month. October order is due by the 9th. October pick up is the 14th from 4-5:30pm.

The Paulding County Health Department will be here on the 15th to give flu shots. They will be open to the public from 9-11:30am. More information will be coming home with the students. On October 20th, we will have a Two Hour Curriculum Mapping Delay. And on Friday the 30th we will have our Annual Halloween Parade at 1:30pm.

Thank you to all of Grandparents who were able to come to our Grandparents’ Days throughout the month. Our students greatly enjoy showing off the school their grandparents and having lunch together. Thank you also to those who volunteered to be our foster grandparents.

Yours in Education

Sarah A. Deatrick
