Raiders beat Paulding in non-league game

Wayne Trace jumped out to a 10-0 lead and then withstood a furious rally by Paulding to post a 23-12 non-conference victory Friday night. Derrick Baksa passed for three touchdowns on the night to lead the Raiders to the win.

Jordan Sherry opened the scoring for the Raiders by catching a 16-yard pass from Baksa. Jason Gordon kicked the extra point for a 7-0 lead. Gordon then put Wayne Trace ahead by 10 points with a 33-yard field goal.

Paulding fought back just before the halftime break with a 3-yard TD run by Drey Gamble.

The second half started like the first for Wayne Trace as Sherry hauled in another TD-pass, this one from 10 yards away. Cage Critten then struck paydirt for Wayne Trace, hauling in a 5-yard toss. With Gordon’s kick, Wayne Trace held a 23-6 lead.

Paulding did not throw in the towel, though, as the Panther stormed down the field to score on a Vince Ross 2-yard plunge. With time running out, Paulding got the ball back again and threatened to score, but this time the Raider defense rose to the occasion, forcing an interception and running out the clock.

Wayne Trace dominated the stats page, gaining 15 first downs to Paulding’s 9 and totaling 298 yards (211 run, 87 pass) of offense to Paulding’s 191 yards (11 run, 80 pass). Baksa finished the night 8 for 8 in the passing department.
