Guidance News for March

Scheduling for the 2010-2011 school year began in February.  A meeting for 8th grade students and parents will be held on March 1st at 7PM in the high school cafeteria. 
 
High school students who are interested in participating in the Post Secondary Enrollment Options Program need to notify the high school of their interest by March 31st.
 
ACT Registration!
 
The deadline for registering for the April 10th ACT is March 5th,  2009.   The next ACT is June 12th and the registration deadline is May 7th.    Students can pick up registration materials in the guidance office or apply online at www.act.org .    Juniors should consider taking the ACT in April or June.
 
Safe Start Driving School will hold the next Driver Education class on March 1, 2, 3, 4, 8,  9, 10, and 11 from 5:15 PM to 8:15 PM.  The cost is $326 and may be paid the first night.  Students must be 15 years and 5 months by March 2nd.  The next session is scheduled for the first week of June.  Registration forms are available in the Guidance Office.
 
PARENTS OF SENIORS – MARK YOUR CALENDARS:
Thursday, May 13th – Senior Awards – 7 PM in the HS Gymnasium
Sunday, May 30th – Graduation – 2:30 PM in the HS Gymnasium

Here is a quick senior year checklist:

o       Work hard your senior year.  This is not the last year of your education.  Get ready for the next!

o       Visit the colleges.  Call admissions’ offices and make an appt or take advantage of open houses and other scheduled visitation days.

o       Meet with college representatives who visit Wayne Trace.

o       Attend the Paulding County College Night at Wayne Trace

o       Apply as soon as possible to the schools you are interested in.

o       Check deadlines for admissions and financial aid and scholarships.

o       Prepare a resume of activities and accomplishments for those you ask to write recommendations. Give your recommenders sufficient information and time to fill out forms and write letters.

o       Keep a file of all your correspondence with colleges.

o       Apply for Financial aid by filing the FAFSA as soon as possible (after January 1st, 2010.)

o       Research scholarship opportunities and meet all deadlines.
