Tech Coordinator Attendance/Grade Entry Checklist

Note: Check with your DA-Site first. Most DA-Sites provide SWAN hosted on their server so you will not have to complete these steps.

Welcome! Please follow each of the items below and plan a total of 1 hour to complete the tasks. Once completed, we think you will be happy with the result.

Please select your server type below ...

Microsoft Windows NT 4.0.

Novell Netware 5.0.

Novell IntranetWare 4.11

Novell IntranetWare 4.11 checklist

Verify that IP has been configured on your server. Use the Netware Console command CONFIG to verify that the frame Ethernet_II is loaded and that an IP address has been placed on the server. If not, click here for instructions on setting up TCP/IP on your server.

Install the latest Novell Web Server. (currenlty webser31.exe)
Note: This step places an operational web server on your file server. By default, all users on your server with a home directory can publish their own web page.

Apply the latest service pack. (currently iwsp5b.exe) Do not restart your server yet. You may also need to update your Client32 (currently w9531e.exe) in order to run Nwadmn95.
Caution: Like applying any other service packs, this can cause problems with your server. Be sure you have a good backup prior starting. If this is a Compaq server with a Compaq network card, please check Novell's Support Site for post patch installation instructions.

Install FTP services on your server. We recommend using the freeware FTPD rather FTP provided by Novell. FTPD assumes you have bindery context set.

If you have not yet done, please restart your server. Be sure that all users are logged out and that you down your server properly.

Create a directory called OECN on the SYS: volume (usually F:)

In Nwadmn95, create a username called noacsc_cs. This user does not need a home directory. This user should be configured so that the password never expires and the account has no login time restrictions. You will need to login as this user and set a password of your preference. Grant that user the following rights to directories:

    Directory Name  Rights
    --------------  ------
    sys:inw_web     RFCEMW
    sys:web         RFCEMW
    sys:oecn        RFCEMW
    sys:public\perl RFCEMW

Send the password for the username created above to your DA-Site. They will then setup several directories within sys:oecn, transfer several files, and let you know when finished so that you can continue through this checklist.

Microsoft Windows NT 4.0 Instructions

Verify that IP has been configured on your server. Use the Control Panel and Network option to verify that an IP address has been placed under the Protocols section. If not, click here for instructions on setting up TCP/IP on your server.

Verify that the web server was installed. To do so, on the server you can select the Start button and then Microsoft Internet Server and then Internet Service Manager. In Internet Service Manager, you should see that the WWW service is running. If you don't see the Microsoft Internet Server icon, then click here for installation instructions.

Apply the service pack. You can either install Service Pack 3 and/or you can install Option Pack 4. The service pack can be obtained by going to http://www.microsoft.com/windows/ then selecting Windows Products | Windows NT Server | Downloads. Once there, you should see a link to Service Pack 3. You will need to restart your server after applying this service pack. To install the service pack, download the nt4sp3_i.exe file onto a server drive. At the server, launch the Windows NT Explorer. Locate the nt4sp3_i.exe file and double click on it. You will then be asked the following questions/prompts. The recommended answer is placed after the question/prompt in {} for Service Pack 3.

     "To install the Service Pack ..."    {click on Next button}
     "Do you accept all of the terms ..." {click on the Yes button}
     "Type of Installation" {Install the Service Pack and
                                           click on the Next button}
     "... create an Uninstall dir ..."    {Yes and click on Next}
     "Setup ... is ready to complete"     {click on Finish}

     "... and choose OK to restart ..."   {click on OK}
Caution: Like applying any other service packs, this can cause problems with your server. Be sure you have a good backup prior starting.

Install an FTP server on your server. Microsoft Windows NT ships with an FTP server. There are also numerous commercial, shareware, and freeware FTP servers. One such freeware program to consider is WAR-FTPD (information can be found at http://www.jgaa.com/ ).

Create a directory called OECN on the C: drive (should be the system directory and be in the NTFS format).

Create a username called noacsc_cs. You may want to disable the anonymous FTP access. Set the password for the noacsc_cs user to a password of your choosing. Send this password to your DA-Site. Grant this user full rights to the OECN directory via FTP.

Send the password for the username created above to your DA-Site. They will then setup several directories within c:\oecn, transfer several files, and let you know when finished so that you can continue through this checklist.

Install Perl on your Windows NT server. Perl for Win32 is available free of charge from ActiveState (http://www.activestate.com/. At the time this document was last modified, the file was named API502e.exe. To install Perl, simply double click on the downloaded file. You will then be asked a series of questions. Below are the recommended response to those questions. All questions should be answered with the default except for the one regarding mapping the .plx and .pl files.
Click on Description
Next
Yes Agree to license agreement
Next Destination of files to c:\perl
Next Install all components. Can select any. Need Perl for Win32 core.
Next Check all items (associate .pl with Perl.exe, add Perl bin directory to path, Standard I/O for IIS)
Next Uncheck map .plx to PerlIS.dll, check map .pl to Perl.exe
Next Program Folder: ActivePerl
Finish Restart Server. Check to make sure no one is logged in.

If you have not already done so, please email your password to your DA-Site. They will then setup several directories within c:\oecn, transfer several files, and let you know when finished so that you can complete the final steps.
