1. It is the parents or guardians responsibility to notify the school by phone when the student will not be at school.
2. If a call from the parent or guardian is not possible, the student should call.
3. If the school does not hear from either of the above within a reasonable time, the principal will call to find the reason for the student's absence.
4. A note signed by the parent must be presented to the principal's office upon the students return. If no such note is presented within 5 days of the return to school, the absence will be unexcused.
5.The office personnel will issue a form, to returning students, which must be signed by each teacher the child would have had in class the date(s) of the absence. The form is to be returned to the building principal's office after all teachers have signed.
The following list of circumstances are accepted by the Lincolnview Board of Education as reasons for school absence and will result in an excused absence: personal illness; illness in the immediate family; an emergency in the home or about the home; death of a relative; family related vacations/activities; Family Business Permit; and for seniors, college visitations, file job applications and job interviews. Students will receive an unexcused absence for other absences. The difference between an excused and an unexcused absence is that the work missed during an excused absence may be made-up by the student for full credit. It is the responsibility of students to give doctors slips to office personnel. Teachers will be notified by the office in the case of unexcused absences. As of June 2000 Senate Bill 181 states that parents may be fined or imprisoned if their child does not attend school on a regular basis. That means if the student misses 5 days in a row, or 7 in a month, the parent of that student could be fined or imprisoned.
Students are responsible to make up all schoolwork missed during an excused absence. Lincolnview Policy allows a student the equivalent of the number of days missed, plus one, to make up work. For one day absent. The office will not request make-up work from teachers. However, if the absence extends into a second day or longer, parents may call the principals office and request students assignments. If the call is received before 10:00 a.m., every effort will be made to gather those assignments from teachers and send them home that day. Requests after 10:00 a.m. will result in the make-up work being sent the following day. If a student has an incomplete at the end of a nine weeks or semester, the student will have 2 weeks to make up work. If the student does not make-up work in the 2 weeks frame, the incomplete will turn into a F. Any Student knowing in advance of an absence, should contact all his/her teachers prior to that absence and get assignments. Make up work is the responsibility of the studnet Absence/Tardy Definition
A. Tardy = students who sign in before the end of first period. B. 1/2 day absent = students who sign in after first period. C. 1/2 day absent = students who sign out before 12:55 p.m.and miss more than one class. D. Excused early departure = students who sign out after 2:20 p.m.
A student tardy to school must report immediately to the building principals office. A Tardy Slip will be issued to the studnet and an entry made on the record in the office. For each two unexcused tardies, the student will receive a noon detention. There will be additional punitive consequences if the student fails to report for the detention.
If a student is tardy to class, the teacher wil inform the student that he/she is tardy. The teacher will make a written record of the tardiness and send it during that school day to the principal's office. The office personnel will record the tardy. For each two tardies, the student will receive a noon detention. There will be additional punitive consequences if the studnet fails to report for the detention.
Lincolnview Local Schools understands that for proper learning to take place, students must be in school. It is this concept that we hope to pass along with our attendance policy. A. Students are permitted five days of absence per nine-weeks. Absences in addition to those five days will result in a 10 percent per day reduction for that grading period. The percent of reduction will then be subtracted at the end of the nine weeks. This includes both excused and unexcused absences. Not to be included in the five days are field trips and school sponsored activities including bus delays. If an appeal is made due to medical reasons a medical excuse form signed by a physician must be returned to school with this medical excuse. B. Attendance will be recorded on an individual class basis: therefore a student can have a reduction in one class and not another. C. Some circumstances exist in which an absence of more than five days may not be cause for reduction of their grade.
1. Appeals will be presented to the Attendance Appeals Board. The appeal must be submitted in writing on a completed Lincolnview Junior/Senior High Excessive Absence Form. This appeal form must include all documentation which should be complete at the time of the initial appeal. Students may be asked to appear before the Attendance Appeals Board.
2. The appeal must be received within threee school days before the end of the grading period.
3. The attendance Appeals Board will review the students Excessive Absence Appeal to determine the validity of the appeal. Students and staff will be notified of the boards decision by the final day of grading period.
4. Absences which result in more than the allowed five, and absences occurring after the appeals board has met, but before the end of the grading period, must be reviewed by the board. These appeals must be made immediately.
5. Students due preocess rights allow that they have the opportunity to further appeal a denial by the AttendanceAppeals Board. Therefore, a denial may be further appealed to a panel consisting of the Superintendent of Schools and the local Board of Education. This second appeal must be made prior to the next scheduled Board of Education meeting.
6.It is the students responsibility to complete this appeal process.
7. A Student may make-up days 6 and 7 each nine week grading period, by attending Saturday school. A student must attend a total of two saturday schools to make-up for one day. Students may not use Saturday school to make-up days beyond seven. (You may use four Saturday schools only per nine weeks grading period).
According to Section 3321.04B the State Board of Education may adopt rules and regulations authorizing the Superintendent of schools of the district in which the child resides to excuse a child over fourteen years of age from attendance for a future limited period of time for the purpose of performing necessary work directly and exclusively for his parents or legal guardian. All excuses shall be in writing and show the reason for excusing the child.
Two forms will be used in excusing this type of absence:
1. The Application for Absence Excuse should be picked up in the Principal's office. The completed form should be returned to the Principal's office for processing and filing.
2. The Permit for Absence will be made out in triplicate and filed accordingly.
3. If a child is needed to work at home, his parent or guardian is to notifiy the Principal's office in advance of the absence, preferably in writing. If a written note cannot be submitted in advance, the pupil must bring a note stating the reason for the absence on the first day of his return to classes.
4. No permit for the absence of a child for a future limited period may be issued for a period of more than five school days, at one time.
5. No child may be excused from attendance at school for more than fifteen (15) days in any one school year.
