Text Box:   The “No Child Left Alone” 21st Century Community Learning Centers Program has been made possible through a grant  received by Western Buckeye ESC.  The goal of the program is to  improve math and reading  achievement.  The program is based on the concept of tutoring and mentoring in extended day programs for students in grades 4-6.  In addition to specialized tutoring and personal mentoring, students will have the opportunity to receive health and dental screening, fitness and nutrition evaluations, and character education.  The overall health and well-being of the child and his/her family will improve the child’s academic performance.
Tutors are certified teachers and  will focus on reading and math remediation.  Students will use the Study Island web-based curriculum during the program hours.  This is a K-8 program which can be individualized to meet each student’s needs.  Lead mentors are trained and college educated adults.  The mentoring model was created by staff of the Starr Commonwealth and teaches team building, asset development, and character education.
