Website
“Being
a teacher is a big responsibility and privilege because what we
do and teach can affect our students’ future. It is so wonderful
to be able to help special needs students to succeed. I am glad
that I am able to make a difference in my students’ lives
so that their future will be brighter educationally.” |
Mr.
Steve Green
Intervention Specialist
Mr. Green enjoys working with students that have special needs.
“Classes are small, emphasis is placed upon individual needs
and learning styles, and each student has individual objectives
and goals.”

Mrs.

Mrs.
Morris provides services for students daily in her classroom for
students with needs that cannot be met in a regular classroom
setting. She gives the students individual attention and instruction
at their level. “I provide a safe, caring environment for
the students to reach their academic and social potential.”

special needs certification and a reading endorsement. |
Ms. Amanda Jacobs
Intervention Teacher
I have always loved reading to children and knew that someday I would be a teacher. Being a teacher is the most rewarding job. I believe that every child should have the opportunity to succeed. I enjoy building my students’ self esteem so they feel good about themselves. Every day is a learning experience, and I love being there to share it with the children. |

Mr.
Mark Detamore
Intervention Teacher
Not
only is Mr. Detamore a teacher on staff, he’s also a well-known
songwriter to the staff and students of Powell. He was honored
earlier in the 2004-2005 school year when the entire school recorded
two of his songs on a CD titled, “The Magic of Reading.”
Not only does he enjoy his songwriting, he enjoys his work as
a teacher. “It’s important to get kids excited about
learning. I like to help the students see why they need to know
something and how it applies to their life. |
Ms.
Jennifer Carter
Kindergarten
Ms.
Carter compares being a teacher to being a gardener. “We
plant many seeds in the minds of our students. We watch over these
seeds, nurturing, watering and caring for their growth with the
anticipation of how they will develop.” Though many think
her job seems impossible, Ms. Carter feels that it is one of the
most rewarding. “What other job allows you to work with
great friends that have similar goals on their minds, the growth
of students and where you get to watch the joy of accomplishment,
the smile of pride, and the tears of success on a child’s
face?!” |
Ms.
Amy Hunsaker
Intervention Teacher
I have always thought that education is about character development as much as content. Watching children grow into conscientious, caring adults can be so rewarding and being a piece of that, however small, is what makes this job the best in the world! Helping children that are struggling find new ways to access the curriculum and learn to love school as much as I did and still do is at the core of my philosophy. I have a background in theatre, both academically and professionally, and use my skills every day to make learning exciting and fun. I remember every one of my elementary school teachers by name. I am so excited to be at Powell and look forward to becoming one of the teachers here that the children will remember as someone who helped them learn and grow.
