Students
in TAG work on advanced math work and deal with thematic units.
All subject areas are integrated into the units of study. Some
of the units that we have covered include: marine biology, middle
ages, ancient Egypt, cultural investigations, holocaust literature/geography
based program, flight, physics of roller coasters, sunken ships,
and others. Students also work on creative and critical thinking
skills. Technology, research skills, and independent study projects
are also utilized. The gifted curricular framework is as follows.
The students are the center of their own learning, math, language
arts, science, visual arts, performing arts, social studies, and
technology are curricular areas that are addressed. Instructional
strategies for differentiation include: creative problem solving,
problem based learning, inquiry, differentiated curriculum, etc.
Students also engage in the following lifelong learning skills:
intra/interpersonal communication, research skills, critical thinking,
creative thinking, decision-making, literacy, and independent
study. Students are accelerated by subject area depending on ability
level. Together we focus on accelerated pace and appropriate in-depth
content. Students can work with peers of same abilities, which
can help their self-esteem and self-confidence. Students also
develop higher level thinking skills, affective social/behavioral
skills, and aesthetic skills by demonstrating a variety of products
and/or performances.
